Recycling Batteries (Merged)

I recall reading somewhere that Sainsburys operated a postal battery recycling scheme where batteries could be sent freepost to a recycling company.0

This is where Turkey are way ahead of us. They actually have collectiion boxes outside electrical shops that sell battery-powered items!
I think some of the council amenity tips have recycling facilities for batteries, but it's not worth a special trip for a handful of batteries, where are we supposed to keep all these items in the meantime? Whether it be batteries/energy saving bulbs or a broken toaster?:wave:0 -
many places take them.i know our local currys does0

All the Tescos where I live collect them (South Wales) also most local government building have a collection box in them. I'm lucky in that my employer (government) also has collection box so I can just take them to work.

Thank you - I have asked in the supermarkets local to me including Sainsburys and Tesco and nobody had a clue! Maybe it's just pot luck depending on where you live.
I will try Currys and the local government! I hardly ever go to the tip, but at least that's another avenue to explore if I know someone else who's going.

Hi,
Just wondered if anyone knows of any way/place to recycle old batteries (just AA type small batteries).
I have a whole pile of them and would like to recycle if poss.
Thanks0 -
Hi, our local household waste recycling centre has a recycling bin for batteries, (although I live in the Midlands so not very local for you!) However, if you check with your local coucil they should be able to tell you which of their sites offer this service, hth0
