I keep getting recurrent Tonsillitis. :( The consultant said that if I had had one more bout of it the year before then they wouldn't hesitate to take my Tonsils out.

I had mine out about 4 years ago (late 30s).

    Best thing I ever did.

    Sore throats stopped.

How can you still have them?

I don't know:confused:, I get them all the time (throat infections etc) and most of the time I manage at home except when they are soooo bad I have to visit the gp. I have also have laryngitus(sp) twice. I had my tonsils and adenoids(sp) out as a child as I had recurrent colds etc.
I can just see a v shaped small dangly bit (doesn't look like tonsils) at the back if that makes any difference?

My dad used to say that to me whenever I had tonsilitis as a kid (he's a doctor) and at the age of 30 I still have mine.

My sympathies to all you recurrant sufferers, I only get it once every couple of years... the last one I sat in the middle of the floor at the chemist and cried because I felt so sorry for myself! Just keep drinking and hoping that the antibiotics kick in soon.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Hi

I had this last year, I would recommend the chloraseptic spray (Vicks) and Mevocaine or Merocaine lozenges they are really good.

The Antibiotics should kick in within 24 hours, also sip ice water through a straw and if you cant take any ibuprofen, soluble paracetamol

    Sympathise though, really really nasty

The ice lollies is a good idea. I had my tonsils removed at 18 (20 odd years ago). I used to buy the rocket shaped lollies, you can still get them, and used to 'freeze' the back of my mouth with the pointy bit. Definately helped at the time.:)
