Ann summers Rep training warning

My Neice had an ann summers lady visit her as agreed, then the lady took away my Neice passport and bank statement to photocopy. ( was this legal?) Then my Neice was unsure about being a rep and rang up about geting her passport etc back, but was told she would only get it back when she attended the training day. She attended training day, very high pressured, they give you a "kit" which costs £500 but you rent it off them at £2 a week, if you decide you do not wish to carry on doing parties or change your mind you cannot give the kit back you still got to pay the £500 to them for it. I am not sure what to think about ll this and would appreciate others thoughts please.

As I would assume most reps are self-employed, I dont know why they would need to have her passport and bank statement unless they were wanting to ensure she was legally allowed to work in the UK and can accept payments from Ann Summers into her back?
Cant see them having any legal right on keeping her documents from here, unless she pays a sum of money; I'd tell them where to go!
Surely a photocopy would have sufficed?0 -
They have no right to keep her documents and she should ge them back straight away.
So has she got the kit now which she has to pay £500 for? I don't think she has a leg to stand on in this regard as even though she was pressured she still agreed to it.Wedding 5th September 20150 -
Heard about this before, as long as none of the toys etc are used and the kit is still in working order and all there they cannot charge her the £5000

what a bunch of scammers. its so easy to buy a job lot of yanking machines cheaper off the net and you could set up your own parties. the only thing lacking would be the brand name.squaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0

I would have contacted the Police about the passport.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0

Yeah, but you'd have to give them quite a bit of use before they wore down and were obviously "used", right?
Bit of a wipe over, maybe a Dettol wipe and a spray with some Febreze, and nobody'd be any the wiser I'd have thought.....0 -
Has she signed any contract re the kit? When did she get it? Surely there is a cooling off period? Contact CAB.0

I think it is unlikely they forced her to hand over her passport, she did it willingly. If the woman visited her home she couldn't photocopy it there so it was no surprise. They have asked for a form of id and she has agreed to this. NOw she presumably has her passport back?
Then she has given in to the pressure. She has paid the £500? What advice do you want?0 -

Cilit Bang would be more appropriate if some if the women in my past have been at 'em.0 -
As a Ann Summers Manager i can tell you that you have been highly misinformed on this!!!!! Upon signing the girls do sign aLegal Binding Agreement stating that they will pay kit rental each week until they bank €1800(sorry im irish) from sales and then they no longer pay kit rental.
if they decide to leave the company they must return the original value of the kit to head office and then they are free to leave! they do not have to pay £500 for this kit!!! Unless of course they do not return it!
i don't agree that the rep take the girls passport as only a photocopy is needed! however as another poster said i doubt your niece was MADE give her passport over!
Please make sure you know all the facts before slating Ann Summers Reps as those of us make our Money from the parties do not benefit from bad posts like this!0
