Ok. If it's on the wrong forum please move to consumer rights forum (not that I have ever looked at this). But if someone can explain why Argos have put this in print, I would be most grateful ( its also in the back of the catalog).

Do a quick search and you will see the answer - stated most weeks....

The 6 year period is set out by the Limitation Act and provides a consumer with the right to bring a claim for breach of contract within 6 years from the contract.

As others have said, this does NOT mean that all goods must last for 6 years. It is UP TO 6 years.

Again as others have said, the SoGA does not state a period of time which goods are required to comply with - pretty obvious when you consider the enormous range of goods which are covered by SoGA.

I was stating that if there was a fault in the original product (be it an assembly fault or design fault), then the customer has the right to take it back to the retailer, for rectification/replacement.
Eg. if a customer buys a product and it states that it does"x" but the customer does not use this feature in the first 3 years. Then when they do come to use it they find that there was a design/assembly fault which renders the product useless in regard this feature. Then this is where this law comes in to its own I believe.

They would still have to prove it was due to poor manufacturing.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Could you have worded your post any worse?:rotfl:

Its worse than those who believe the EU law.

Its not little known at all, quite a lot of people know about it (not necessarily what their rights are under it though).
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Wording may not be good but could you get Argos to explain why they quote it (both in their catalog and online)? :rotfl::rotfl:

Because they don't want to mislead customers about their rights.

But to call it a "warranty" or "guarantee" is misleading.

Because they get to fool idiots into thinking they have the right to a 6 year guarantee if they buy from Argos, and that Argos are nice people who deserve their money because they were honest enough to mention this. And if anyone complains that its misleading they can say "we were only quoting..."

Can you link us to this...

I had a quick scan but cannot see a "6 year warranty" mentioned anywhere, merely references to statutory rights.
