Freecycle thank you's?

  • I had a big bar of Galaxy once and then just before Christmas I gave away two sets of fairy lights that had only been used once. The person collecting them gave me a bottle of wine, but I felt really guilty as I'd got them off another freecycler brand new, and only needed them for the one use. I hardly ever take items but next time I do I'll take a thank you as recompense!!!

I have given loads away on Freecycle (and received lots too) but I have only ever had a thank you email twice! I once got a pot of jam from a lovely lady.

When I have received something I always give a quick email thanking them again. I received a large TV recently, it was like new, and really wished I had brought a bottle of wine with me. I emailed them later to thank them again and gave some money to Children In Need. They seemed really pleased with a donation to charity.

I always write a thankyou e-mail, it does not take long!

I recently gave away our old 3 piece suite & it made me quite disappointed that the lady did not bother to say thankyou!
  • I received some home made jam once off someone who felt they needed to give me something because they'd had a few items from me in the course of a couple of months. I found that really touching as i didn't expect anything and it didn't bother me that they had, had more than 1 item from me as id rather it go to people who generally needed the items.I do find it disappointing as well when i don't get thank you emails from people, but it doesn't stop me from freecycling as they so far have always said thank you when collecting the item and tell me they reall appreciate it.

Coolhandluke, if you are wanting to cancel your emails contact the freecycle group owner.

If they are on Yahoo, then it has been known to happen.
What they need to do i re add you to the membership list, then ban you.
    That usually stops the emails.

I got some rhubarb once from a lady who took a pc for her grandchild and when I had a printer become available I emailed her and she brought some biscuits on that occasion.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

I picked up 2 bras that someone had put on Freecycle and I took a box of Roses with me. I did tell the lady that I would prefer to not thank her on the actual Freecycle site (they were large size bras) and she was ok about that and was chuffed with the chocs!

Is this what your group do? It must add a lot to the number of emails everyone gets. In our group the original poster can put a TAKEN post up so that they don't get any more enquiries but they don't usually name the taker. A thank you email would go only to the giver at their individual email address.
