Freecycle thank you's?

I was once given a box of Jaffa Cakes as a thank you, with a large half-sucked boiled sweet stuck to the box! My son was given a packet of novelty pasta for some kids stuff he gave away
I've had several emails to say thank you (and on the few occasions that I've collected something myself, I've always followed up with a thank you email). Most people just thank in person when they collect and that's fine with me.
I agree about not wanting token gifts in return. Mostly the people are doing me a favour by taking something off my hands!0 -
I have only ever advertised one item on freecycle and couldn't do it again, although i have never taken anything either.
My inbox was full of far to many sob stories on why i should give the item to them that i felt awful just picking one out and worrying that they were lying and the poor other person who needed didn't get it...
I would of been an emotional wreck had i carried on.
Do think the idea of it is fantastic though.0 -
Can someone tell me how to stop receiving emails from Freecycle?
I have tried everything including cancelling my account but with no sucess.
I created a new account using the same email address and asking for no emails other than from moderators and I stll receive them.
Have been told when you select no emails ther is an option that says "make it so" but cant find it.
Any suggestions?0 -
Gave away a printer and a monitor last year. Both sent 'thank you' emails.I went away and now I'm back.:j:j0

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Oooh, I have remembered one specific thankyou
Last year I got a load of stuff for the nursery in a jungle theme from a local lady, I visited her two months running. Recently she posted a want for some jewellery-making bits which I had, so I offered them to her. She had to turn them down as she didn't drive and I was too far .... So I took them to the post office and posted them out to her! It was my way of saying thanks for the offers earlier in the year. (And she sent me a thankyou email)

Our moderators' advice is that people shouldn't give the sob story - you're supposed to just say you'd like to be considered for the item. Hearing stories on MSE, I think our group is very well run by the mods.
I usually wait at least 24 hours so that people other than the "professional" freecyclers get a chance to ask, eliminate any requests I consider very abrupt or rude and then pick a name out of a hat. It's down to chance who gets the item.0 -
Ive given many many items away on freecycle everything from 3 piece suites to wardrobes i might mention that i run a house clearance company and not only does giving on freecycle save me and my customers money, keeps perfectly good furniture out of the landfill but also helps others out along the way.
I always state that i would like them to go to someone who is in genuine need or families that dont have much i do find that knowing they have gone to someone who is in need and feeling like ive done my good deed for the day is enough of a thankyou you can sometimes see from the way people are that they appreciate what you have given them and that gives me a nice feeling inside so in a way they have given me a little something.
Rude or abrupt replies dont even get a look in.
Cost to post a freecycle message = £0.00
Cost to read replies = £0.00
Cost to answer email to offer it = £0.00
Knowing ive just done something good and maybe made a little difference to someone = Priceless0 -
I've recieved a couple of boxes of choclates over the past couple of years and I've usually given sweeties to the little ones when the person who has given us kiddies bits have obviously had children
I think it's nice to send a thankyou email after being given something but unfrtunatly not everyone has the same outlook.
We've given freecycle a rest a few times due to the poor attitude of some people, I had a lady who wanted some wordrobes from my father in laws house, my little one was 4 weeks old we all waited outside my father in laws house for nearly an hour and didnt recieve any contact from the reciever, I txtd called etc no answer.....anyway I then recieved a text another hour later (after we had returned home) saying they where setting off, when I explained I was no longer there I got abusive texts and random missed calls on my house phone:rolleyes:0 -
I picked up 2 bras that someone had put on Freecycle and I took a box of Roses with me. I did tell the lady that I would prefer to not thank her on the actual Freecycle site (they were large size bras) and she was ok about that and was chuffed with the chocs!DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024
