Well donr my wedding was 15yrs ago and we paid 3 grand all in but things were a lot cheaper lol
My best friend had hers in oct and we helped decorate it, just a tip hair scrunchies can be great the starry ones or feathers just looped round a cheap candle/tea light holder for a nice but cheap table decoration
As for the dress mine was £400 and been boxed upstairs since but was worth it, I felt amazing on the day and its all about family for me being together and just enjoying the moment.
I hope you all have a good day and time planning its half the fun lol
Helen x

Nothing wrong in ebay on a whole. You can get some great stuff on there I admit that. It's just some sites in particular. Ebay attracts not only honest sellers but dodgy ones too. Some people have been ripped off by sellers and that is so unfair especially with weddings.
Let's take fabrics seeing as i'm a dressmaker. I wouldn't buy my fabrics from e bay. Now I'm not saying that there couldn't possibly be a deal to had, but I ain't taking that risk. I can't afford to.
I've bought hats from e bay. 1 in particular looked great and had a great description. (because that's all a buyer can rely on, pictures and descriptions) When the hat came it was bashed, filthy and stank of smoke.
Ebay is a marketplace where bargains can be had, but you can also be fobbed off with tat. It's a risk I am not prepared to take.
As I said, I have no problem with e bay and don't shake my head at those who buy or sell, I'm just not a buyer of certain things.0 -
I thought a lot about getting a dress from landy, but i just dont have the nerves for it.
The meausrements would be done on what i am now, and i guarantee i would loose a little before the big day, meaning i would have spent more money on alterations, should i be able to find someone willing to do them. When my mum got married lastyear she bought her dress of ebay and had one hell of a job finiding someone to alter it.
I also wouldnt have had the nerve to wait for it to be delivered and possibly not like it when it arrived, meaning i had a last minute dash to the bridal shop anyway.
I even tried on a few dresses in the shop that i had picked a similar style from landy and they didnt look or feel right.
I have no problem with dresses from ebay - landy etc.
My dress includes ALL alterations (regarless of how many it needs) veil & tiara.
I had a fab day with my friend trying on all the dress, my dress made us both cry it was so lovely (although i hated it when it was on the hanger).
I now have the experience of waiting for my final fitting and seeing my mum cry when she see's it too.
I doubt i would get that if i got my dress out of a jiffy bag.
I can put my trust in the dress shop knowing that my dress is being well cared for the alterations will make it fit perfect.
I can have that dream holiday next year.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

I wouldn't buy fabric on eBay either ~ I think you need to see and feel fabric before you part with your money.
Luckily I knew what my dress was like before I bought it otherwise I would have been on pins waiting to see if it was as good as it sounded.
I've bought quite a bit from eBay for the wedding and 'touch wood', everything has been fine and I've been over the moon!

I think we've all done that, I said elsewhere, I had the vision of "my" dress in my head - I found it and it looked hideous on me

I think the important thing to remember is it doesn't matter where things come from or how much has been paid, it's your wedding and as long as you are bouncing off the walls that is what really matters. :beer:0 -
Awww congrats hun.... If you can afford it I wouldn't worry- like you say it's your one special day.
I am in the opposite situation- I had a £5k dress budget (this actually makes me shudder now but it was the limit my mum and step dad gave me). I have ended up with a (brand new) £400 dress... although my friend has had to bring it back from Spain so have had to pay the excess baggage charge and got to pay the fitting fee once I've found someone I completely trust. It was the dress I wanted and tried on but shopped around for the best deal and get one hellavu lot of a bargain... it was £2000+ in the dress store!!!! I LOVE it soooooooooooooooooooo much!
Congrats on your new plans too when are you getting married? x0 -
Princesswoo - I think that there's two people who matter here
and if DJwoowoo is your DF, I dont think you have to worry about him being Shreck - can I just say those comments are sooooo sweet.
Assuming he's not a stalker or a wierdo...keep hold of that one, he sounds very prince charming
And well done on finding your dress!!
<Slopes off to keep looking for a pattern>"I know that Prince Charming doesn’t come save me, we save each other and fight back to back against all comers that’s what marriage is to me. Yes DJWOOWOO is my DF. And he's definately not shrek. I told he he was around, lol. He's already nagging me for hints about my dress. I find it very odd that we will be (already are) sharing the rest of our lives together and telling each other everything as we already do but as soon as you decided to get married, planning a wedding is all about keeping things secret from your other half.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

Congratulatoins on finding your dress! Very exciting! I spent a lot on my dress too. It's a bit of a shame, as it's now sat in a box on top of my cupboard, but I've never regretted it for a second. I'm looking at a wedding photo on my wall now, and I'm still sooo pleased with it 18 months later!0
