My Budget wedding has gone out the window as i went dress shopping today.

OMG

We booked our venue yesterday and i had an appointment to go dress shopping today.

I didnt expet to see anything id like.

How wrong was I?

I found the perfect dress, the 1st one i tried on. But i did try on 6 more just to make sure and i couldnt stop thinking about the 1st dress. The shop was fantastic and didnt rush me and were fab bringing me accesories and everything.

So my hunt for a cheap wedding dress has gone out of the window as this one has just cost me £1900 including a veil and tiara. And thats with a 20% discount. Im not gonna say which dress cos my DF comes on here a fair bit.

Now we are thinking wheter a cheap low key wedding is really what we want - i dont think it is, so we are tempted to put back the wedding by a few months and have a bit extra cash to make it a great day.

I cant belive i was only budgetting £3500 for the whole wedding and i have just spend over half of that on a dress im gonna wear for 1 day, 1 amazing day - am i crazy?

It is a gorgeous, beautiful, totally amazing dress that ticks all the boxes and is a definate 10/10.

Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

Lol please could you PM me too? I'm curious now... but on the subject I don't think you're mad for spending that much on it... if you really love it that much, you will feel amazing in it on your special day :) besides you could always sell it afterwards if you felt happy doing that.

  • Hi - I wrote a nice reply and it threw me out !! Anyway try again -you need to do whats right for you both and what you can afford or save up for. £3.5k isnt much for a wedding, it is possible of course but tough when venue and registrar are often about £900 upwards !! Its your day and should be special for you both. It doesnt need to cost thousands to be special but obviously all the details and extras do add up !! Good luck with whatever you decide.
We got married 17th April 2010 !! A wonderful day with my wonderful husband !! :T

I'm glad you found a dress you liked but frankly I think you're barking. £1900 for something you are going to wear for a few hours? Absolute madness.

I'm sure the shop was lovely, lovely enough for you to commit there and then to spending a fortune.

Your wedding is just one day and it's about you and your H2B getting married and it's about your friends and family being there to wish you well. You don't need to spend a fortune for it to be special, you will make it special regardless of what it costs you.

You can buy some beautiful designer dresses on ebay, either samples or pre-loved ones and they go for an absolute song - you are highly unlikely to get much money when you come to sell yours on as wedding dresses very rarely sell for more than a very small amount of what they cost new.

Sorry to be negative but this is MSE!

Could you see if it would be cheaper to get all the great bits you like made into a dress? If you're still Pming links I'll have a look too
I'm sort of excited about dress shopping but I know that I'll probably end up like you and falling for something out of price range, I was on the maggie sorreti site yesterday and I couldn't get off it!
How is the rest of the budget looking? Could you cut anything else out or back anywhere?

Congratulations for finding THE dress princesswoo...

I got married last year and always thought why would you spend more than a couple of hundred pounds on a dress...then found MY dress in a magazine...I knew straight away that was all I would want to wear. Went to the shop, it was the only dress I tried on..and the price (gulp) 3500! ...but then I managed to find a secondhand one on ebay and haggled it down to 1100. Still WAY more than I could even comprehend but I have to say other than the odd moment of OMG! I am now 100% pleased I made the decision.

This is your one day to feel special. If you can afford it, good for you. It you're having doubts about the money, think about a cheaper veil/tiara, but keep the dress if that's what you love :)

As for the rest of the wedding, you don't need to spend a fortune to make it an amazing day, but I would say if there is something you really want, go for it. We had unusual things like an ice cream van between the ceremony and reception which didn't cost a fortune but really got everyone talking.

    Good luck with it x
