Sorry to be negative to but mSE or not the op wanted to share her news. Maybe her spending a fortune is her wanting to feel special.
I'm not even going to comment on e bay.

She asked for views  Sorry did I miss the part of the post that only asked for people to agree?

Why wouldn't you comment on ebay? Too common for you :rotfl:

  • You will be the focus of attention whether it is to be a budget or no expense spared wedding. If you feel good in your dress that will contribute towards you enjoying your day.

Personally I would stick to a wedding that is affordable.

If OP wanted a dress that cost 5K and they could afford it, then what's wrong with that?

Should people be told off on the holiday board where they are spending lots on a holiday, or on the motor forum where they are spending thousands on a car, gee, they could get a pushbike and save the rest couldn't they?

It's upto each individual what they spend their money on.

My dress cost less than what we would spend on a night out!

It's not from China, it's not second hand, it's from eBay (I saved £350), but I think it's lovely and simple (bit like me haha!) and I love it to bits.

I couldn't justify spending so much on a dress, but I wouldn't knock anyone who has/does.

    OMG

So my hunt for a cheap wedding dress has gone out of the window as this one has just cost me £1900 including a veil and tiara. And thats with a 20% discount.

    - am i crazy?

    Completely.

But I do this kind of thing all the time...I vow I will only spend x amount on such and such, then I see the perfect thing and my vow flies out the window faster than concord. So I can understand your actions easily. :D

If you can afford it, then there is no right or wrong. The only 'wrong' (imo) would be if you were really strapped for cash and you spent such a large amount on one dress.

Will you be wearing it to the bingo afterwards to get your money's worth? ;):rotfl:

Now we are thinking wheter a cheap low key wedding is really what we want - i dont think it is, so we are tempted to put back the wedding by a few months and have a bit extra cash to make it a great day.

I cant belive i was only budgetting £3500 for the whole wedding and i have just spend over half of that on a dress im gonna wear for 1 day, 1 amazing day - am i crazy?

It is a gorgeous, beautiful, totally amazing dress that ticks all the boxes and is a definate 10/10.

I think it's fantastic and whether MSE or not, there are other ways you can be MSE concious and save money.
    Good on you girl.:T

No, you said it wasn't very MSE which doesn't mean you have to buy everything on the cheap!
The op is able to budget on arears where she can afford to cut back, That is what budgeting is all about, not doing everything on a budget, but deciding which areas of the day you need to spend more on and which areas you spend less on.

really, no comment on your last comment!:D

oh - i didnt want to start an argument. But i welcome you opinions and respect every one.

I have never spent that amount of money on any 1 item ever in my life.

We can afford a massive wedding, if we cut back a little here and there - its just i sit and think off all the other things the money could be spent on. Like a once in a lifetime trip, save it, new car etc etc.

But then i think this is a once in a lifetime day - so why not.

If i opted for a more low key - cheaper wedding i think i would regret it in the future as, after several sleepness nights its not really what we both want.

We were only originally going to have a late wedding at 5pm and go into an evening do, but speaking to my DF and some family, we have decided to go all out and make it one trully amazing day, which doesnt mean we are just going to throw money at everything.

As we are now making a day of it we are having to change venue, which believe it or not is actually costing us less for a wedding breakfast and evening do as it would have at our original venue for just the evening do.

Our new venue also has amazing grounds and the most gorgeous stair case for me to walk down. There is more room for the kids to play around in too.

Anything to do with the wedding that i can make myself i am doing, like invites and even making my own crystal bouquet. Family and friends are helping out wherever they can, which cuts costs down a little but more importantly makes every one have a small part in our day.

Having slept on it, (or not as i didnt sleep a wink last night thinking about it) I have decided that i have done the right thing in buying my dream dress and dont regret it one bit.

    I'm so excited.

(i dont think i could ever sell my wedding dress - im gonna keep it and do the hoovering in it, lol)

I didn't say "it wasn't MSE", I said "this was MSE".

It's my view, you don't have to share it but it's my view on the question asked...that's what forums are about isn't it? If the OP had posted "here's my lovely dress isn't it great" - I'd have said yes it's lovely. But she didn't, she asked for opinions specifically on the amount that she has spent on the dress.

If you read the previous posts by the OP she's said herself that she has no intention of spending a fortune on a dress, she's been seduced by the lure of the wedding dress shop - we've all (well most of us!) been there and it's a toughie to walk away from - many of those ladies do have very persuasive selling skills!

We all know that the OP could buy either the same or a similar dress from elsewhere - heaven forbid even ebay and still look and feel a million dollars on her wedding day without having to spend more than half her original wedding budget on it. You yourself could make her something for a lot less.

We all have our own views and surely we're entitled to air them if they are appropriate to the question asked?

I'm still interested in what's wrong with ebay? Lots wrong with some sellers on ebay I'm sure, but not the whole thing.....
