I prefer Lancome foundation as its the best one I've found so far although I fancy trying something new.

I would suggest doing a round of the counters and asking for some samples which you can go away and try for a few days as this will be the best test of a foundation on your skin.

  • I use Estee Lauder lucidity. Have done for years and would be lost if they ever discontinued it.

Any good EL rep (I use the one in our local Boots) will match a shade and then (this is the best bit) they have a chart and they can read across and give you a couple of samples of different foundations all in the same shade.

Each sample will last you about a week so you can really get a feel for which one suits you before spending £20 on a full bottle.

Plus, a couple of years ago, a make-up artist friend told me that it was more natural to just use your foundation on your T zone only and rub what little excess you've got over the cheeks and eyes. This was you use less and if the shade matches you never get a tell tale line. And, this needs to be the only bit of your face you powder.

My foundation lasts me ages now.

    Hope this helps.
  • Hi bc3000, if you have pores you want to cover up, liquid foundation or powder will not cover them, because they are all designed not to clog pores in order to prevent bacterial acne, so you will see the pores no matter how much you put on - what you need is a primer to hide pores. Foundations and powder don't tell you this, they want you to think they can hide all face problems!

I have the same problem as you, so I put face powder on my nose, then on top of that I use Loreal Paris Studio Secrets Professional smoothing resurfacing primer. Its in a small pink pot with a black lid. This covers all the pores in one sweep! But for some reason it does not cover them unless I put the powder on first. Then after the primer, I put another coat of powder on top of it. Pores sorted!!

The primer will cost you about £14 for a tiny pot from Boots or Superdrug but is well worth it, and as you will only use it on your nose, that pot will last you for at least a year so great investment!

Foundation -If you really want to invest in a perfect colour match, head to House of Fraser where you can have a foundation mixed to perfectly match your face colour from Prescriptives. I used this for years as I am quite pale, then I moved onto id bare minerals powder, because I have an oily face too. I have found I am less oily with powder so I am sticking to it. For the best powder mineral foundations (with spf and pure minerals in them) have a look at Laura Mercier and id Bare Minerals which can be found in Selfridges.
    best of luck xx

Top priced - Estee Lauder Double wear or double wear light
This is my very favourite foundation Double Wear, with idealist skin refinisher underneath, will lessen the size of pores (IMO).

When I cant afford this I buy maybelline dream mousse foundation and apply it with a foundation brush. Its very good bot does not last as long as the Estee Lauder one.

My skin is very sensitive and I have to be quite careful but have found these two great for me.
I bought the Maybelline one just before Christmas 3 for 2 in Boots.

Have you thought about using a primer underneath a cheaper foundation? I've been using Max Factor's Second Skin for a few months and wasn't particularly impressed... I bought ELF's Mineral Face Primer and it's made such a difference to my foundation! It glides on and sticks around all day. I really, really recommend this product:

MAC foundations make my skin break out like nothing else! Guess what works for one doesn't always work for another.

Revlon Colourstay foundation is great for the price, very similar to MAC I think. It's about £7 (or it was last time I bought it) and it lasts forever.

I like Max Factor miracle touch cream foundation too but it lasts about 5 seconds as the pot you get is tiny. Totally not worth the money. It used to be my favourite foundation until I started using mineral makeup (Everyday minerals, Bare minerals) and now I wouldn't go back.

I've also been using Max Factor second skin foundation. I really like it. I spent a fortune on some mineral make up which was awful. I only use a tiny bit of foundation on my checks and t-zone as I prefer a more natural look and finish - I also tried loads of samples before making the purchase.

I use Tesco's oil free. For me it's as good as the more expensive brands.

Interesting, although I love the finish of EL it also gives me really bad skin after a few weeks of use, this is why I have shyed away from MAC foundations, although I am a MAC fan because they are both part of the huge EL company as are clinique who I have problems with as well, if you like MAC foundations or find EL expensive I would recommend you try wet n wild available from Tesco, its finsh is very similar to EL doublewear light but costs £1.99, only 3 shades available but really good stuff, I'm getting quite preechy about it:rolleyes:
