Can you recommend a good foundation?

Options
I need to buy a new foundation but after a couple of cheap ones I'd really like to buy a decent one that I can keep for a while.

I have quite large pores (IMO) around my nose area, I don't have dry skin but it does get a bit oily sometimes.

Can you guys recommend a brand maybe? I've got a Boots gift card so will head there first, but I always feel a bit lost when I get to the make up section.. so many good brands, I don't know which one to go to first!

At Boots at the moment there's a free gift from Clinique when you buy 2 items.. so I was thinking maybe Clinique. Maybe I can get a voucher from the ACM thingy for extra points.. Hmm

Any tips/experiences you guys wanna share?!

Edit: also, do you think it's worth investing in one of those good cleaner/exfoliator/moisturiser sets that Clinique do? They're £20 atm..

Why not search out your local Avon rep?

Avon now do various foundations from 'tinted moisturisers' through to Matt Mousse foundations, liquid foundations, Face Perfector (not a foundation at all but a light gel-powder to give up to 10 hours coverage), extra lasting foundations (2-in-1 primer + foundation), age transforming foundations with SPF protection, cream-to-powder foundations (applies as a cream but dries like a powder) and face illuminators, which I guess could be used as a foundation too. The choice is endless - all products are delivered free to your door and come with a 90 day money-back guarantee i.e. if you don't like them then just return them for a full refund or try another one!

    What can you lose?

You might find some help and reviews on foundations on this website and forum called beautyjudge http://www.beautyjudge.com You can even join in and review your products and apply for free products to test.

It was originally posted in freebies section on MSE but i always check beauty judge for more reviews on stuff as well as MSE of course :D

My fave foundation is bare escentuals mineral foundation, pricey but the best i have ever had. :) Would never wear anything else again.

Clinique foundation is lovely and so is Clarins. Ask them to shade match you.

I've recently changed to double wear from estee lauder, they have a huge selection of colours and will give you a sample to take away and try which lasted me nearly a week, you need only a little, best applied with a brush...i use this as i need heavy coverage. The light version is also very good, but i bought the wrong shade, will swap to this in the summer. For weekends or if my day involves just nipping out to do the school run i slap on some bare minerals, the coverage isn't as good but i do need alot, but it doesn't feel like i'm wearing any makeup.

Before i discovered estee lauder i used clinique foundations but the shades were never a perfect match for me, also i could be one shade in one type of foundation and then a different one in a different foundation.
  • I agree I wear EL double wear. The colour is fab, not to pink it lasts all day. I feel that it is good value for money as one bottle £24 lasts me all year and I put this on every day.

What I did is ask all the foundation companies in Debenhams to give me a little sample, which they did. Went home tried it and thank god as saved me loads buying to try out to then not like! Dior, clarins, lancome, estalauder etc etc

    Hi

Your skin sounds a bit like mine and the best I've found is Chanel Double Perfection Creme Poudre Creme Powder Makeup. Not cheap, but good stuff.

Otherwise ask at the counters for samples, when I was looking for a new foundation a couple of years ago, Estee Lauder, Lancome, Chanel all gave me samples. YSL didn't, so they were automatically eliminated :p

Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending
