DLA Renewal time scales

Does anyone know what the renewal time scale for DLA is.

My husband was quoted 12 weeks. I said you did say renewal and he said yes.

I thought 12 weeks was for new claims. They have had it 3 weeks and the claim ran out last friday ho hum. 9 weeks to go then.

Thanks in advance.

Yours

Calley

bear in mind theyve been off for xmas, it will be backdated, why not just ring them and ask?
  • My friend filled in her form in November and hasn't received a reply yet, but it doesn't run out until February. She received her form late September/early October. How long did you have the form for before returning it?

If you are still eligible for DLA, any amounts due between the date it runs out and the date it is re-instated should be paid in a lump sum within a few days of the decision.

The DLA helpline is open 7.30am-6.30pm and the number is 08457 123456

Without wanting to appear rude I am aware we have had christmas and did not count from 24th of Dec until the 3rd Jan as being working time on the claim. Again I am aware that my husband will not loose out if the claim is successful as this is a second renewal for us.

He did ring on Monday to be told they have had the claim for 3 weeks and it will take 12 weeks for the entire claim there words not mine.

The last time it was total mess and we had to appeal but then he waited nearly 5 months while they got there act together to get everything back in sync because of a mess, because IB and DLA has been bundled together and then where being unbundled.

As in my first message I was under the impression (rightly or wrongly) that renewals where only a month not 3 months for a brand new claim.

We have been really bad as we had the form back in July/August and only got it in on the 14th of December :oand the claim ran out on the 31st December.

His last payment was half DLA amount as they pay you two weeks in arrears. So he has had that.

According to the DWP on Monday it is 12 weeks. Actually the one thing I am not sure if that is from time of receipt or from when the claim actually finishes umm.

I am not moaning or worried as I know he will get any money he is owed and it is our fault for leaving it late with Christmas coming and everything. But just thought it was rather a long time. And was wondering what other time scales other people have had.

All I will say is that will teach him to leave it so late next time.

The figure of 12 weeks is the figure that they quote for the length of time it will take but in practice it could be quicker if it is a straight forward case.

    Hi calleyw,
my current claim ends 31st Jan, I received renewal forms end of September and they received them on 20th October. Two weeks later they notified me that they had sent for a report from my GP. I was given their decision within 8 weeks of them receiving the forms.

When they send you a letter saying that they have received the forms it states on that letter that if you don't hear anything within 8 weeks you can phone to see what's happening.

Hope this helps, although, I don't think I would have left it 4 months or more to send back the renewal forms!

My DLA is up in Jan and had the forms since July, Like you i left things really late, filled them in Oct/Nov i think, within just over a week i got my decision (but made a mess of the forms so now asked for a reconsideration giving more info)
They said it should take 12 weeks (might have to go to appeal yet)
I dont know why it took so little time when i first sent my renewal - had the letter that they are looking at my case, and the decision letter both arrive same day!
All just depends how much of a workload they have got, prob more now due to xmas backlog

It took my sister three months to receive her last DLA renewal decision, and that was with her sending back the completed form immediately and being a DLA claimant for 8 years.

(Her benefit expiry was end of November, she received the renewal forms in May, and got the decision end of August).
