Just in case anyone missed it, as doubledark noted in the cheap ipod's thread the nano is cheaper new from Amazon since they dropped their prices.

Mine arrived today, but have been having problems getting computer to recognise it, After phoning Apple, they said that it needs a charger to flash the firmware, which wasn't provided.They offered to send me one for £19.99, but refused a freebie.It's taken the shine off, but only very very slightly.
Just hope I save someone else wasting 4 hrs of their life, trying to sort it out.


Apple have just phoned me. The guy I was speaking to said he'd spoken to his manager, and they are going to send one on to me . Result!!!!

You can buy one off ebay for £3.50 and it works exactly the same way. Apple's price for the charger is a rip-off imho.

From the posts on this site, Apple do seem to have good customer service which is pretty rare today. I've never understood why it needs to be plugged into the mains when you update the firmware and I really think they should warn about this more clearly before people try to update. Especially as iTunes will prompt you to update when you connect. And Apple stopped giving power adapters a while back with new models.

my 4 ipod minis (2 for my kids, 2 to sell on ebay to offset the cost!!) are showing as due tomorrow - I know they will not come with mains adapters but will charge over USB.

How do you connect for USB + mains at the same time ? Its probably really obvious, but if it charges over USB through the doc connector how do you usb and main scharge (for example the reflashing mentioned earlier ?)

I got 2 ipod minis today as presents for relatives- bit confused over some of the above comments. They don't have mains adaptors- will they be able to start using them as supplied? Answers in simple English please- I know nothing about ipods!!

They charge straight off the usb. Let them charge for about 20 mins before trying to update the firmware etc as the pc will only recognise it after this initial charge - at least thats what it did to me!

My first post......

Ordered my 30gb iPod yesterday and received this morning - fantastic service from Apple. Unit itself is in excellent condition (possibly even brand new).

Had similar problems trying to connect to pc, but found an old usb/plug to connect cable to mains after flash. Took a bit of fiddling and a few resets, but eventually worked (was vey worried to start with).

All for £70 - what a cracking deal !!

Iwas the OP - and mine should arrive tomorrow.

I have been a bit worried about all the "distortion" sound quality comments looking around on the web for the IPOD photos ... can anyone confirm whether they've heard this with their one thats arrived ?

What sort of serial no.s have people been getting ?
