Dell ink too expensive - new printer?

I am supposed to only buy ink direct from Dell

That is now wrong. Both Dell and Kodak have tried to get customers to buy either direct from them or through their one or two "authorised" shops.

I am in the ink business and companies like me refused to have anything to do with either Dell or Kodak. Any customer that phoned, we advised them to bin the printer and buy one where they can shop around for the cartridges.

Dell were first and Kodak eventually followed. They now supplier the wholesalers and you can buy their original cartridges from a variety of places. So do shop around, although the ink market has had drastic price rises in the last 18 months or so. Dell announced a 54% increased in one day, for example.
