That's what I used to do.:D
Mentioned in another post it costs 5p per page. Some Universities do this including Daisyloo's. Hard to get around because the students have an account and they topit up as required. Stops them printing out loads of work basically.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

You can get cheap non-Dell refills for Dell (which are actually just rebadged Lexmark) printers.
You can also buy kits and refill the cartridges yourself - but they can be a bit messy.
However you may have to trick the printer into thinking you are fitting brand new cartridges.
This is usually done by fitting an empty cartridge with the electrical contacts taped over and resetting the printer a couple of times.
Sometimes the printer may continuously tell you that your refills are empty, ignore it - it'll still print.Gus.0 -

personally got a Epson SX200 printer, £45 from comets its an all-in-one inkjet printer. cartridges I bought where from ink-power via ebay, 14 cartridges for £10.99 inc postage and packing, each cartridge has 12ml of ink in which is about twice as much as a proper epson cartridge.
You can also get 12 cartridges from other sellers for around £6.99 but i've only ever bought from ink-power. works out about 79p per cartridge

like the sx200, but has a 1.8LCD screen, where mine doesnt.
Get 5% off if you use 5PRINT at the checkout, from comets.

How many sheets of paper do you manage to print per cartridge?0 -

I have tried that - it does say its empty and prints for a while but to be honest that printer just hates me and works when it wants to. Sometimes it drops a colour and sometimes it is very liny and grainy - you just never know what you are going to get!0 -
That's why the refills are expensive then, Lexmark have notoriously high priced cartridges.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.

What problem do you have with your compatible cartridge? There is a known problem with some remanufactured Dell cartridges (notably the JF333) that do not reset the ink level when recycled. If you use remanufactured cartridges on such a printer (or refill your own) then ignore the ink level warnings. If the driver does not allow you to ignore the warning then turn off ink level monitoring.
Some earlier Dells can use remanufactured Lexmark cartridges, although they sometimes require a modification to the cartridge lid.0 -
In my experience Samsung lasers are good and economical to run. On some Samsung models you can change a setting on the printer (or in the driver) to continue to print when the toner is 'empty'. When printing gets feint remove the toner and gently rock from side to side and reinstall - you'll get a lot more pages printed for your money!
Also, as with any laser, print in batches when possible rather than individual pages. This will increase the life of the drum unit.0 -
For colour printing I buy fake cartridges at a fraction of the price of genuine ones (Epson). I find them just as good. You do need to check compatibility, because the printer manufacturers are always coming up with new tricks to make their printers reject fake cartridges. Most websites will help with this, but if not, go elsewhere, there's enough of them out there!
For black and white, it's a laser printer every time, vastly cheaper to run and much less hassle and muss. Just bought a new one (Samsung) from Argos for 48 quid.Je suis Charlie.0
