If your after a faster running computer (Which im pretty sure you must be)
Give ccleaner a go
Then ~
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
and tell us what operating system you have and how much RAM
It would also be wise to scan for nasties (The main reason by far that systems are not running as they should be) ~
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Post the log COMPLETE here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds:idea:0 -
Thankyou all for your good advice,i have downloaded Ccleaner and i have also downloaded Malwarebytes i have done a full scan on MB and i have also done a clean up with CC and a registery scan with CC.
with the registery scan there were over 150 issues to correct,i did so and everything is now running ok,you are quite correct Rik when you stated that it was more speed that i was after, and after reading somwe of your excellent replies to some very tricky post's i have determined that what i need is more Ram.I only have a lowly 248mb of it,however my comp is now nearly six years old it has served me very well but i think more Ram is a definate must.
Thankyou allForum spellcheckers are the pitts.0 -

Make sure you have (enough) spare memory slots - which you probably do0 -
You definitely need more RAM
1 gig would see a hugh increase in speed:idea:0 -
Hello Rik.
I do have enough ports thankyou, and i have also been trawling through the web looking for the best place to get 1gb Ram,have you any suggestions?

Looks like a lot of snake-oil in there! I could have sworn Windows came with its own 'free' defragmenter... And there's MSCONFIG.
Yes windows comes with it own defragger which is frankly a let down. last time i ran it which was over 4-5years ago and i use to defrag once a month, it took just under 24hrs to finish on a 30gb partition. put it another way, i started the defrag at 6pm it finished the next day at 5:40pm.
By downloading one the free defraggers aka defraggler, jkdefrag i can defrag all the harddrives in less time than that 1 partition.
MSCONFIG if used will always come up after a reboot saying you have changed your setup, which is why i always use AUTORUNS
actually the only thing i use tuneup utilities for is the styler, my xp pro looks like vista. and to change my bootscreen. And no i didnt buy it before you ask. A trusted friend gave me a link to download, but it was scanned after i downloaded.0
