there is a train of thought that you should not use reg cleaners as they can create more problems than they cure

Try Ccleaner, it's free and does a decent job. I've used it for several years and never had a problem. It does give you the option to back up the registry first.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

I agree with both the above answers. Dont use a reg cleaner unless you have a genuine problem to fix (And even then its advised not to run one)

CCLEANER is the safest I know of though, which thousands use regularly

I concur with the excellent http://www.ccleaner.com/ ; but be very careful with the registry clean option; and backup and then backup.
  • iObit advanced system care free is also very good - I have been safely using it for a few years. https://www.iobit.com

OUCH, for the price of £29.95 for a program that only does the registry think i would buy Tuneup-utilties 2010 for the extra 4p £29.99 which will not only clean your registry, will defrag your harddrive, optimise your computer

    http://www.tuneup-software.co.uk/products/tuneup-utilities/

You can download and try it for 30days, then just remove it, if you dont like it.
    personally i like it.

Looks like a lot of snake-oil in there! I could have sworn Windows came with its own 'free' defragmenter... And there's MSCONFIG.

Regseeker has always been ok for me, I use it after deleting progs and don't even use the backup option. Many years ago I did have probs with a reg cleaner but don't remember which. I guess modern os is not so vulnerable.
Don't think you'll see any difference tho' - new install is best bet.
