ok, put the network card in, router is working but can't get the wireless to work on the laptop, any ideas please?
First things first, please confirm that you have connected the devices as in post 7 and that the internet is working on the PC.

Assuming 'yes' to that, on the laptop open Network Connections in Control Panel. In Network Connections, click View - Details. What does it say for Wireless Network Connection? If it says Disabled, right-click it and click Enable.

Try pressing the blue Fn key and the F2 key at the same time. Some wireless laptops use that key combination to turn on/off the wireless.

If no joy, what is the make and model of your laptop?

I hope that you have changed the routers password, changed the SSID and set up WPA-TKIP security, otherwise anyone will be able to access your connection.
