I have just returned from Malta with my 2 children (8 & 10) for the 3 of us, half board for a week including all flight suppliments, from Gatwick was £350.

    We went with https://www.maltabargains.com.

We actually stayed in Qwara, which has only got a smooth rocky beach, but it was only a very short, pleasant bus ride away to get to any of the 3 golden sandy beaches on the island.

To get the very best deal, it is best to phone Malta Bargains on 0800 091 4444, with this short notice, you should be able to get a fantastic deal. We thought our price was good, but I met a family of 3 over there who were on the full board deal and only paid £340 !!

Have you tried paying adult fare for the eldest, or even all of them? I know it sounds crazy, but the holidays might work out cheaper.

Things like under occupancy supplements are calculated on number of adults in the room. Sometimes paying a little more for a child to go at adult price, works out cheaper due to the saving in the under occupancy fees.
Here I go again on my own....

No they wont mind booking it as 2 + 2 but I dont suppose it would hurt to double check
    Insurance try https://www.travelsupermarket.co.uk
family of 5 for 1 week under £20 for the lot (friends booking)
Dont rush into transfers try and find out if it will be cheaper to get a taxi each way.
as a guide https://www.shuttletransfers.com want £25pp return it might even work out cheaper to have a car for the week
