British Gas- Web Saver 5?
Anyone on this tariff? We have been using British Gas for gas and electric since moving in a year ago. I know people slate them but they have never done much wrong to us.
Anyway they reckon we should move to the online tariff as we'd save quite a few quid a month. At the moment we pay £20 for Gas and £20 for electric. Thats direct debit.
At the moment we are paying roughly £125 for Electric a year and £149 for gas . So we are always in credit. If we go on the web saver the direct debits would drop and obviously it would be cheaper.
The only thing is this would be on a year contract with a £60 cancellation fee.
Not sure whether to do this or change suppliers to get some cashback. However I doubt i'll get much of a cheaper rate than this.
Just after some advice really, we've never switched gas/electricity suppliers before!
Thanks

Just noticed Quidco if you get the websaver 5 tariff on there you get £30 cashback. Does anyone know if that would work for me even though i'm an existing customer on their normal deal (not an online based tariff).0

... we've never switched gas/electricity suppliers before!...
Get your annual consumption figures in kWh from your existing supplier and input them into a couple of the comparison sites in the resource bar above.
Check single fuel options as well as dual fuel, as this can also often give you savings."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
I will do, don't really understand all that but I doubt I can get it much cheaper than what we are paying now.
It would be good is the Quidco tracks aswell.0 -
Sweet jesus what sort of a property are you in!? Your yearly consumption is the same as my monthly almost!
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
I know its mad.
I live in a two bed new build in London. We both work Mon-Fri but always have the tele on and heating is usually on... I can't work out why it is so low myself to be honest.
It probably helps that we are in the middle, with a flat above and below us who must have their heating on alot?!
It works out we would be paying something like £18 for Gas AND Electric on this web saver deal. I keep expecting a letter to come through saying we owe about five grand and there has been a mistake! It must be right though as we always give a meter reading and they send out their mob to also check up on it.0 -

I would find out why it is so low! are you sure you are not just being charged £20 per month and the rest of the useage is just accruing arrears? My ex GF had stupidly low monthly DDs at her previous house and when quized if the DDs had increased with the fuel price increases she said no, when she was due to move then the reality struck ! luckily she had equity to offset the unexpected, if WS5 is like WS 4 then you get a bill every quarter anyways so it seems odd.0 -
Your payments are unbelievably low. Are they based on ACTUAL meter readings at all? Don't confuse mothly direct debit payments with actual useage!0

Well we pay monthly. it started off Gas £40 Electric £30. It dropped to £20 + £20 after a few months of being in a lot of credit.
Every single month we give a meter reading. Every other month BG come round to do their own reading. We get an update after meter readings are given online. i've spoken to them over the phone wtc and they have said it's low but they haven't made much of a fuss about it.
We are the first people to live here, as I said it's a new build. Why it's low I don't know, then again this is the first time I/we have had to take notice of utility bills as it's our first place together.
You have worried me now! Probably gonna get a corrected bill through for £10,000!0
