Your in the same boat as lots of others and have to just sit it out. I tried to get out of the carpark this morning for a doctors appointment but my hand brake is frozen solid, not surprising as its -9 at the moment.

With regards to the pavement maybe if everyone who lived in the house cleared a bit of pavement each, like i did after the snowfall it wouldn't be so bad. I have no ice on my pavements after spending just 10 mins clearing the snowfall away.

It's the right idea. but if you leave any icy bits and someone goes rrrr's over t1t, then you and I both know that in today's culture, lawyers will get involved.

My own Idea is that if every able bodied person salted their own bit of pavement (Probably without being seen of course.) when it first started snowing, it would help a great deal.

Its a sad world though when people aren't prepared to do something that is potentially helping others due to the fear of being sued. Im only 25 and even at my young age I have seen first hand how this "make a claim society" has changed. When I was younger the street i lived in had a burst water main and the water board brought in a large water butt so people could fresh water, and everyone in the street helped each other out. Now if that happens everyone only looks out for themself.
    Shame really.

I think it was the same people that cut the grass, so I am not sure if that is private contractors or not now.

It wasn't the shopping centre that was doing it anyway.
  • I've noticed the issue cropping up more & more in national & regional news reports, I guess the fractures are mounting up

But on a more :T note I've posted up another couple of links which might help people, including the online "milk & more" service from Dairy Crest, on the Facebook group. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=242539337329&ref=mf

Why does nobody clear the paths outside their homes? Yup, it's all down to health and safety

My brother works for a local authority and believe me they're well aware of this. If you start gritting an area then you better make sure you continue to do so and to a good standard, from a legal standpoint its better not to attempt to grit at all.

You will only be liable if you have been negligent. If you clear your path properly then nobody will be able to successfully claim against you.

That only holds good on public roads even then they would have to show you acted carelessly somewhat difficult to do I would think.

You have actually got more of a problem on your own property you have a duty of care to visitors so if the postman falls on icy or snowy paths and you haven't taken reasonable steps to make it safe then watch out for the lawyers letter

What a sad state of affairs this country has come to. I remember the times when everybody helped to clear the snow up and down the street now people are too busy expecting someone else to do it then winge on public forums when the pavements are icy and nobody takes responsibility anymore.

    Rant over :D

Can anyone tell me what they think about my idea?

I use gritty cat litter for my cat - every day I remove the solids, and the tray is changed completely once a week. The dirty litter (it's just wet from urine, so no poop in it) is usually put into a carrier bag and into the bin.

Anyway, would it be really disgusting if I recycled it onto the icy pavements instead of binning it, during this weather? It is only urine, and dogs go on the pavement all the time. It's not even completely wet, a lot of it is dry and hasn't been touched, it's just hard to separate it.

My OH thinks I am a freak for even thinking about it.

Im torn on that one I can see the logic  but part of me says ewwww
As you say dogs pee on the street it's prob only a problem if a child fell in it I guess ?
We have walked to our local shop every day and the amount of yellow snow is quite shocking, goes to show that just because we can't usually see it theres urine all over the streets anyway
Not a freak just inventive tell him necessity is the mother of invention and it's free :money: lol
