Hi I won a coat on ebay costing over £40 with £7, p&p (very heavy coat)
it arrived today and on inspection I noticed that the seam on the sleeve and fold back cuff has come undone about 2-3 inches,
This would not be an easy repair for me (rheumatoid arthritis in my hands)
because the cuff is stitched down and it would need to be sewn from the inside.
I do not really want to return the coat mainly for the cost of p & p would I therefore be able to ask for a few pounds refund to cover the cost of professional repair:confused:

Thanks for any advice

  • Why don't you email the seller with what you have told us on here. They might also ask you to send a photo. You should email them today or tomorrow to let them know of the damage.

It might be prudent to find out how much it would cost to repair and you could let the seller know that (before you agree on an amount to settle on - you do not want to be out of pocket by agreeing to an amount by the seller before you even know how much it will cost to repair)

I have finally received a reply from the seller, who insists that she inspected the coat and it was OK when she sent it, it is easy to miss because it is a black coat, so I can understand her maybe missing the damage.
However because she says she has 100% feedback I should claim for the damage from RM, I cannot see it being their fault as the packaging was undamaged.
I now have decided to return the coat, but have never had to return anything before, can someone advise me to go about it please,
Would I get back both lots of postage, I assume I would have to get the package tracked, would this cost more than the £7 it cost to send:confused:

    Thank you for any advice

If the seller is not going to give you an allowance for a repair then you have no chance of getting ANY post back IMO

    Thank you for your reply,
Surely though if I return it damaged I should get a refund for the coat and the original postage:confused:

put a claim in though Paypal/Ebay for" item received not as described". Ask for a refund of the amount covering the cost of the repair. It's odds on ebay will find in your favour.

If you paid via Paypal, you may be able to start a SNAD dispute. Paypal may then tell you to return the item via an online trackable means in order to get a refund. They may refund you for the item cost plus the original postage but will not refund the cost of returning the item.

I'm afraid you'll have to pay the return cost yourself, and you MUST send it recorded.

Would it be worthwhile getting a quote to get it fixed to see if this would be cheaper than return postage?

Did you send a photo of the damage to the seller? If yes, and they still declined to give a small refund to get it fixed, and the repair quote is cheaper than return postage, then I would just leave a factual negative for them.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

You may find it costs less than this to send - depends whether their postage price was inflated. Maybe you should weigh it first - post the weight here if you need to know any prices.
