  • Got it sorted.
Spoke with the manegeress in at tesco and she imediatly offered money back or replacement. She insisted that money back or replacement is there policy, not return to manufacturere. She'd never heard of that before herself.

Either way, job done. My son's back on with his console.
  • Sorry but you are incorrect, I have personally had 2 xboxs with the E74 error one within 4 months the other at 6 months, both times it was repaired. My friend also had the E74 error on his after 6 months and they replaced with a refurbished model, which he refused as the refurbed model was 12 months older than the one he sent in for repair, they repaired his and sent his back.
I have also had RROD again not replaced but repaired and that was within the 12 month warranty period, im not waiting for 2nd xbox to get the RROD which is out of the 12 month warranty but covered by the extended warranty for RROD.

Thing is, I posted on xbox.com forums about this and I also contacted support about the failure as well and in both instancies it was made clear that the current policy on all e74 is replacement, not repair. They insist it's been that way since the middle of last year ( since they started offering the extended warranty on e74 ). They even explained why.
MS also insisted I try to return to the retailer first before submiting a ticket as it could and should be delt with quicker than sending it to them.

[STRIKE]Why? Because what has stopped you swapping the xbox over with a banned console after the last few months of banned waves? They want you to send it to microsoft as they know if its genuine it will be repaired if its a banned console it wont, I suppose they are protecting themselves[/STRIKE]

C'mon, the console still had it's warranty seal. It had failed, unrecoverably with the one red flashing light and the e74 error message after aprox 2 weeks use. There was no way in hell anyone could confuse that with a console thats had it's seal broken, been modified and banned. Bannning a console doesn't cause e74 to happen every time it's turned on.

FYI, did you know that it was a Jasper that failed on me? The new supposedly RROD proof version that was released in October?
Guess there not as good as everyone said.

My 1st console still had the warranty sticker intact when the E74 error came up, which may have been modded:rolleyes:. Also they can only tell if the console is banned by trying to connect to xbox live, which is unlikely to be done in a tesco store, also just because the console is less than two weeks old doesn't mean it hasn't been modded and banned. I have known a console to be banned within an hour of ownership lmao. (how gutted was he lol). Also the E74 error has nothing to do with a console being modded/banned and can happen straight out the box or 2 years down the line, think you have got things a bit mixed up there.
Good to hear it was the jasper chipset after all the hype with microsoft saying they finally fixed....typical
    Glad it got resolved though.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

...a real result despite earlier arrogant (return in a week best repair time thingy)...well done, that is an excellent result!

    I await the naysayers explanations!
