Or are they still keeping quiet!!
The statement was made after 6pm on Radio Ulster.
Briefly, Peter denies any wrongdoing. Says there has been a smear campaign against him by the media. Has asked his officials (Civil Servants) to instruct the Departmental Solicitors Office to brief a QC to examine the Spotlight programme and the allegations within it and provide an opinion as to whether he has done anything improper. He said he will co-operate fully and answer any questions the QC might have for him. He said this would be the quickest way to clear his name. Mark Davenport asked whether he felt the process was sufficiently independent and he bristled and asked whether he was accusing the lawyers working in DSO of something.
Frankly I wasn't surprised by this but I was surprised it took all day to come up with something so weak. I may turn out to be wrong but I think he will have to go in the long run and he could have done so today with dignity but instead will have to be dragged kicking and screaming. Either way NI is the loser...0 -
I think that Peter Robinson should be eating some very humble pie. Essentially he's left his wife out to hang and is pleading ignorance. Well Iris had to learn the corrupt ropes from someone and somewhere. I remember growing up and a public meeting was held by residents in Carryduff who could not believe how much green belt land that Fraser kept getting permission for. In the 1990s....I think we know now.
I think that who ever investigates should ask to see the bank statements of all their accounts and solicitor accounts etc to see how often these little gifts appeared!!! PS If anyone from moneysaving wants to give me a gift I won't tell!!MFW 148 - Mortgage £121,000 1Jan11 / Mortgage £120,300 28Jan11 / £119,808 24Feb11 / £119,400 22 April11 / £119,089 29 May11 / £118,500 October110 -

 Well said thriftyminx. I think the programme last night didn't say too much about the Planning angle as they may not have enough evidence - but I think the whole saga stinks of this and that Peter is in it up to his neck quite frankly.
At least they can still afford for poor Iris to head off to Chamonix to recuperate in a luxury chalet. We wouldn't want to think of her slumming it now would we. :rolleyes:0 -
