Buying more time....
Scenario 1:
His wife tried to commit suicide, the public is not informed, and he went to work the very next day.
Scenario 2:
Months and months later the public is informed of his wife's wrongdoings, her mental health issues continue, and a long shadow of doubt is cast over his integrity and he takes six weeks off.
I agree Iris was the chief wrong doer in this whole debacle, but there is no doubt that Peter has lost a lot of credibility and respect. Iris has made him look like such a prat and his damage limitation exercises have only succeeded in fanning the flames of suspicion. There has been a cover up, he is afraid and six weeks is absolutely nowhere near long enough for this whole sorry mess to be properly investigated. He won't be back, NI can't wait for him, life has to go on.0 -
It's a mess, pure and simple. Anyone politician who thinks for one minute that he or she can cover something like this up is not only deluding themselves, they are treating the electorate as idiots and should simply resign before being ousted. In this case, I think the financial gains from their combined salaries were one of the reasons they have hung on and hung on.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

was the £50,000 the thin edge off the wedge .how many other sneaky deals have gone on that we don't know about .Iris and her son where on the planning committee off Castlereagh council . You don't just phone a property developer and say can I have £25,000 GIFT or loan without expecting something in return.
What happens next ,now Iris has gone .Will she be prosecuted ?"Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -
BT speculates this morning that it's likely any possible prosecution would not go ahead because of her mental state. Justice is unlikely therefore!0

Indeed. I imagine I could be a basket case if I needed to avoid prosecution.
And I'm not knocking depression as a genuine and/or serious illness folks - been there, done that! [which is why I think I could fake it if needs be].0 -
I don't think he looks well at all poor fellow what a wicked person to do this to her family and to the young man in question (she knew him from the age of 9 and in my mind there is something very wrong in what she did )and indeed to the people she is supposed to serve.xXx-Sukysue-xXx0

i have a feeling that since it is arlene foster taking over from him for 6 weeks and not gregory campbell that he will return, and that is why she was deliberately chosen over gregory campbell, if he had been chosen then the chances of peter returning would have been slim to none!!0
-
Dodds said yesterday evening, when asked why Foster and not him, that the legislation stated that the temporary FM had to be an existing Minister in the Assembly. I think Gregory Campbell would therefore also be ineligible.0
-
that also makes a lot of sense! i think actually out of all the ministers in stormount, peter is the best of a bad bunch, but its not good that it is overshadowing the very unscrupulous matter of the Adams' brothers goings on...0
