hi - bought the ipod touch on sunday from HMV but it doesn't play videos. I still have the receipt and want a refund but HMV state I have to go to apple with an authorisation code and then they will give me an exchange or a credit note. I want a refund - can anyone advise as to my rights please.

I would say its reasonable for you to "reject" the goods under the sale of goods act 1979.his entitles you to a FULL refund within a "reasonable" time.
Deal with HMV, Apple have nothing to do with this.
Go to consumer direct for more info on the act but thats about all you need to know really.
They will however help with template letters to the store and head office.
Also point out its an offence to deny somebody their statutory rights. Report this to trading standards also.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

When you say it "doesn't play videos" what exactly do you mean?
I'd suggest that HMV do not accept that it does not play videos and are disputing your rejection (as they can) and are therefore asking for the manufacturer to confirm the fault.0 -

You can't just reject for no reason, there would have to be a fault. As per my post above, that's probably what HMV are disputing.0 -
Sounds like an odd fault, I'd say you're not doing it right. What do you mean by "doesn't play videos"?0

It doesn't play videos on youtube even though I am connected to the internet and can browse etc. Also, I can't play videos on the ipod touch which I have downloaded from my computer.0 -

Are the videos MP4, sometimes they have a different codec which means that iPhone/Touch cant play them. You could always try watching a youtube vid and seeing if that works:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

I meant the videos what format are they in?, you could always try a software restore. Did you try and play a youtube video?:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

How long have you had the ipod touch? Everybody loves to instantly recommend the SOGA route, but if your warranty is with Apple, then it's worth contacting apple and reporting the fault with them, because they deal with things very quickly. A friend's ipod which he bought elsewhere went wrong, he walked into the apple shop with it, and left with a replacement in about 5 minutes.
Issuing a stern letter to HMV quoting your legal rights, waiting for a reply and so on will not only take LONGER, but could end up costing your more money than just getting the authorisation code from apple, or taking it to your nearest apple store.0
