i bought and paid for a netbook online from debenhams on 27 dec. they sent me an email yesterday saying that it had proved impossible to obtain further stocks and returned my money - the netbook is available in the high street but is a lot more expensive. is there anything i can do? i have now lost out as it is going to cost me more to purchase from my original second choice retailer as the price has risen in the last week

suck it up unfortunately.
you can't force debenhams to sell you something they haven't got.
you got a refund & an apology, what more do you want?helpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
COMPENSATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As above sorry mate but nothing you can do, you got your cash back, just try looking for some other bargain.0 -
thanks for the replies. no, not compensation just the netbook i thought i purchased and an honest explaination. a good retailer would have supplied it whatever the cost to them"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

I have heard this a lot from people lately it seems Debenhams & M&S have not honoured lots of orders this xmas
I thought that once the money was withdrawn from your account a legal binding contract was formed, have you rung and asked to speak with a supervisor ?"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."

Don't be ridiculous - in your first post you said that the retailer had said that "It was impossible to get more stock" Do you understand the definition of impossible? You have had a refund and an honest explanation. There is nothing more to be gained.0 -
Have you asked whether they are planning to get in back in stock if they are able to locate stocks, and would you be able to pre-order? Is it available in their stores, or only online. If its instore you could ask if they will check stock in all their stores. Otherwise there is not much else you can do. Debenhams are a bit of a mare for doing this. I ordered a coat from them online and a week later they emailed me to tell me its out of stock, flipping annoying as it was for my daughter and she needed it for school! They just don't seem to keep particularly good stock control.:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0

are you serious? of course i know the definition of impossible - it is debenhams that doesn't. the same netbook is available today on the high street BID just don't want to supply at any cost"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

You must be a walkover, the retailer tells you it's impossible, and you walk away. What, someone else has bought every one ever made, and the manufacturer has no stock, and it's never being made again?
But to the op, I agree with frannyann as the way to go.0
