Npower door knocker - Is it a Good Deal?

Hi all
we have our gas and electric with Britsh Gas on Click 4 tarrifs, duel fuel. A seller knocked on the door from N power obviously saying he can save us money. If i sign up after a year i get £100 cashback + on the 1st year an additional £100. He did tell me the unit charges and they were a little cheaper the BG but i have asked him to come back on Friday to go through it a bit more.
Is there anything that i should be looking out for?? as it seems ok to me.

Cheers

My experience of Npower is of terrible customer service, rude and unhelpful staff and high bills. I have been much better off since switching to atlantic, I don't think I pay any more really and the customer service is miles better. In fact Powergen's customer service was also way better than npower.
Most companies will give you cash back if you pay by monthly direct debit on a dual fuel tariff.

If you are serious about saving money on your gas and elec just use a comparison site yourself and see what you can save. It will probably be more than any dodgy salesman can offer you.

Best advice is to do your own research and don't believe anything a door knocker tells you as they will be on commission and some will say more or less anything to try and get a sale

If you scroll up the page a little there are links to comparison sites.
NPower have probably the worst record for miss-selling in the industry having been fined many millions by the regulator for continued bad practice, this doesn't mean the person you are seeing is one of those bad apples but does mean you want ALL of the offer in writing. £200 cashback is HUGE.

Look up your usage history with BG, find out in kwh how much gas & electric you've used in the past year. Those are the figures you want a comparison based on, NOT the unit prices but the total cost for the year.

If you're not comfortable getting the comparisons yourself, post your usage here, with a same region postcode (not your own) and someone here will help you out I'm sure.

The £200 on offer is nothing special. I think £100 is a DD discount, can't remember what the other £100 was for, probably average savings compared to average user on a standard tariff with someone else.
It's currently displayed on all their advertising material.

Get those comparisons sites warmed up and invite the nPower salesman in to discuss the findings. No, comparison sites don't ever lie, thats what salesmen do! ;)
Watch the nPower salesman make a sharp exit as soon as you show him the comparison site.

Then if you do decide to switch to a different supplier, check out the cashback sites and see if they will offer you anything, else take the £15-£30 typical cashback the switching sites offer - that alone will be £15-30 more than nPower salesman offer! (not to mention the much better deal you'll probably get when you compare the whole market)

NEVER EVER believe a word an energy salesman knocking on your door (or interupting your shopping in the high st./supermarket) tells you.

Do your own comparison and work it out for yourself.

Even if Npower are the cheapest supplier for you, it wont be the tariff the door knocker is offering you (they cant sell online tariffs)

If Npower are the cheapest, switch with a site that pays YOU the cashback, not the salesman.

The salesman will tell you comparison sites are corrupt and show you who pay the most commision blah blah blah. Dont believe a word of it, put your Kwh usage in and you will get accurate results.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Sign up via Quidco for £90 cashback to their exit fee free tariff, then change again once you have the cashback
