What new phone to get?

I realise what phones people like is very individual but I feel like i'm very out of touch with the phones available and what they all do.

Currently out of contract, on orange pay monthly, been with them for over 10years. Always had Nokia phones. I'm on (I think) Dolphin 35? and pay around £46 per month, crucially I have 5 or 6 'magic numbers' and phone 2 of those people for a total of about 2hours every day. Also text a bit. Not too bothered about camera/mp3 etc. I do want a phone that will also allow me to browse the internet (without paying large data charges of course).

So obviously heard of the iphone - not really an apple person but won't rule it out as obviously some people love it. But what else would be comparable /do what I want?

Is there a nokia that will do similar? Obviously I'm used to their OS. What about blackberry and htc? (no particular models in mind yet). What else?

I don't mind signing up to a contract, providing I get a good deal on the contract and phone. I either want to be able to keep my magic numbers or get a really good deal on inclusive mins/new magic numbers.

Any ideas/suggestions/thoughts regarding the phone? tips on the contract? what to ask the retentions team for?

Any thoughts and suggestions would be welcome. Cheers.

  • Well the Google Nexus just came out yesterday but it is quite expensive at around £400. It is a serious rival the iphone though. You can't get it on contract yet, you can only buy it sim free from google.
  • Hi there
Having recently deciding to replace my 3yr+ phone I was in a similar situation to you - not having the foggiest what to get.

I found that Techradar.com had very comprehensive reviews of most phones which may help when deciding.
And then there is omio .com which allows you to compare phones and search for deals.
I particularly liked the compare function as unlike some companies who list attributes differently and with varying lingo, meaning you're not really sure if it means the same - Omio seemed to do a good job, its phone finder option is handy as you can tick attributes / brands & styles and it will produce suggestions.

Quite sadly I copied info to a s/sht of all the phones I liked, gave each attribute a score on stuff that was important to me (Camera / connectivity / screen / battery / music etc) and went and looked at contracts for my faves! - LOL - a bit OTT for a new phone I know - but, if like me you havent a clue it may help narrow it down.

    Hope it helps.
