digibox question

I am thinking of getting a digibox - the main reason being that my reception is rubbish.

I used to have the TV in a room with a roof aerial connection but now it's in a room that doesn't - I use a portable aerial and a plug-in booster. (The reception is similarly bad with both methods!)

Would a digibox work with the portable aerial?? Someone also told me that it might not make any difference to the quality in this area - it's just a bad signal area.

Sorry if these are daft questions, am a bit of a technophobe!:o

    All you need to know about freeview but were afraid to ask;

    freeview help

I reckon you'll need a digital roof top aerial. (That is to say, an aerial for digital tx rather than analogue)

I think I would safely say that if your television has bad reception with your existing aerial a digi box would not work at all, with or without a booster.
We have an aerial on the roof which feeds our digibox, during the summer months because the trees are in leaf we lose some of the channels on the digibox.
If you have a bad signal going in to your digibox there will be no picture to watch, not even a bad one, being digital you either get a picture or you don't!
I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes.

Might be worth trying to borrow a box from someone to try it out. Having said that, when I asked at John Lewis a couple of years ago, they assured me that if a box didn't work due to poor reception they'd give a full refund.

It is still abit hit and miss in areas with poor reception. At my old gaff in Wiltshire, I had lousey analogue but managed to get freeview almost all of the time.
Ask around your neighbourhood and see if anyone is on freeview.
Might even be someone subscribed to MSE who live in your area!
    Don't be shy, where're you at?:T

you will need a sky dish to go with a digi box as it gets its signal from satilite tv you know up there in the sky pass all the clouds and stuff, not from a mast like analogue tv duh!

LOL, what are you talking about? You are getting sky and freeview mixed up.

Freeview does come from a mast, only difference is the mast send digital signal instead of analogue.

    duh!

Question is, what does alex want? SKY digi shouldn't be a problem, freeview might.

My head hurts, it was going so well...........

Well, seen as though the OP mentioned getting digibox through his/her portable aerial I doubt it very much that the OP is talking about sky.

    Seriously....
