Can I really save £263/year by switching to EDF Energy?

So please explain:
What's more you may have done your maths but they don't add up
You see, based on "20.39p per day and units of 7.46p, averages around 7.8p per unit", that implies you use about 60kWh per day or 21900kWh per year. That would cost almost £1700 with EDF.
Yet you claim it only costs £1653 with BG at an average unit cost of 10p per unit, that means you only use about 16530kWh per year (or about 45kWh per day)
yearly average from what i can gather from mess B.G has left me-
16000kwh
15500 X 9.655 = 149652.5
+ 500 x 24.041 = 12,020.5
= 161673/ 16000 = 10.1046 per unit
16000 x 7.46 = 119360
+ 365 x 20.39 = 7,442.35
= 126820.35/ 16000 = 7.9263 per unit
Savings look nearer £348 to me.
I used my current known daily usage in first workings getting 7.8.
Hoping to see a big difference with changes we've made so those figures could change.

As I said:That's because you appaer to be on an horrendously expensive tariff with a different supplier currently
...
You could have have been paying just 21.195p for intial 500kWh and 8.512 for the remainder with British Gas (BG Websaver 5) instead of the 24.041p/9.655p you were paying with them.
Not as cheap as EDF for your high usage, granted, but would have saved you about £200 per year effective immediately (instead of after 4+ weeks)
i.e.
15500 x 8.512 = 131936
500 x 21.195 = 10597.5
8.9p average (compared to 10.1p average you were paying)
annual cost £1385.33 (including £40 discount for DD)
EDF cost: £1268.21
(saving of just £117 compared to a saving of £348 you think you've made)
If you've reduced your usage, all this maths is irrelevant anyway, as you should do a comparison on your expected annual consumption. A variation in consumption can mean a different supplier/tariff will be more beneficial. Particularly an issue since you have early exit fees with the tariff you have chosen."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Whatever. I'd have had early exit fee leaving the plan I was on to go to websaver then exit fee again? doesn't make sense to me. As I have absolutely no idea what impact the various changes is going to be making yet I'm perfectly happy to base my figures on last years consumption thankyou.
I've spent the best part of a year wrangling bigger issues than unit price with British Gas (whilst dealing with deaths of my mum and grandad) and it is only now that I've had a chance to actually sit down and take a proper look at the situation.
I don't know why you people are so negative and nit picky, don't you have anything better to do than continually criticise?0 -

Can you see at any point where I asked for their unwelcome opinion?0

Thanks.
I switched onto online s@ver v4 as soon as EDF ripped our prepay meters out and did it over the phone. Though they did try to put me onto annual fix v4 by mistake but an e-mail to customer services sorted that out0 -
Back to the origninal question about EDF - Beware
I did all the figures on U switch and yes I did them correctly. with actual bill readings. They said they could move change my bill from £120 per month to £95 per month - so I switched.
A couple of months down the line they said we werent paying enough and now have to pay £200 per month.
Not sure where their figures come from but wish Id never bothered:T £2.00 coin saver number 059

Yes, each and every time you post on this forum.
You can't expect to post on this forum and not expect others to comment on the content of those posts if they so wish."Now to trolling as a concept. .... It seems as though my thread was ambushed by folk having a domestic. All good banter I know. Just proves how great this site is and how passionate we are about saving a few £££ and helping out each other.
Anyway, back to my first post (thanks to all who helped me in my calculations).
I did some more calculations (a tricky beast to deal with) and found that I can in fact save c£263/year so I switched from British Gas Click Energy 5 to the EDF Energy Online S@ver V5 tariff.
My monthly payment has therefore reduced by c£20/mth and I got £80 through Quidco so Ii'm well happy. So in total i've saved c£340 which is a super 22% saving.
I am tied in until March 2011 so I'll be watching prices around that time.
I think I'm gonna become and Tarriff Tart.0 -

I just had a letter from EDF putting my prices up, their online saver v5 was cheapest on all comparison sites for me but only available to new customers... thought it couldn't hurt to call them anyway and they let me have the online tariff, so very pleased and no hassle of switching to a new supplier (which I would have done if they'd said no, think OVO came up 2nd cheapest, but would have been annoyed as I happen to like EDF's service... and Nectar points!).
So def worth calling them and asking if you know which tariff you want!
Oh and it is online only, obv, but I did everything online anyway on the standard tariff and like it that way. :j0
