Urgent: Possible Carpet Rip Off

Re-posted as originally in wrong category.
carpet fitters arrived at my house to fit a carpet, I am at work so mum just rang.
firstly they had a fit cos ive taken all gripper rods up in lounge, ive got a red quarry tiled floor and they said they thought it was concrete and it will be virtually impossible to renail the grippers into a red tile floor as they would be lose as they have already been nailed into the floor before. they are now gluing the grippers down instead.
then my mum said the underlay says cosi on it with footprint logo. i googled it and it comes in 6, 8 or 10 mil - so i asked to her ask them what mil it is and they said 9 - they said they dont use 6.
i'm getting a bit wary now. they are coming back tomorrow to put carpet down. do you think i should cancel as i dont trust them.
i wasnt told underlay type when i ordered i just put 100 pounds deposit down. its just the fact that i dont think a 9 exists so why are they saying thats what theyre using.
thanks

did you request a certain spec of underlay?0
-
No, I didnt think to - but the fact is ive asked them outright what they are providing and theyve said something which i dont think exists. what would my rights be?0

Re the grippers, weren't you asked when you bought what type of floor you had and if you needed new gripper rods supplied?
With the underlay, I'm not sure this is enough to cancel.
Did your receipt say what underlay you would get? Maybe a 9mm does exist and you haven't found it online. If you didn't specify a minimum thickness when you ordered then surely they'll just supply their basic one. If you're getting 9mm instead of 6mm, that's a good thing! 0 -

hi sarah, no they didnt ask about the type of floor and they came out to measure. i took them up purely because i have a dog and he might have injured himself and also the ones by the radiators were rotten as if water had leaked on them.
receipt says underlay but not thickness.0 -
Not really sure why you don't trust them.Surely you must have known gripper rod was needed? If they were planning to replace the gripper rod you would have seen it on the invoice. How were they to know you would take it up?If you didn't know the underlay type you should have asked.0

Ring them and point this out then.Maybe it's not a conspiracy, but a mistake. If you are looking for a way out over 1mm that seems bizarre.0

So what. Up until today you would have been happy in your ignorance as to what type of underlay you're getting, and as you didn't specify anything in the first place I fail to see what difference it makes.jostenning wrote: »Because they just told me they are using Cosi 9 which doesnt exist......
Ball & Young, the manufacturers of Cosi underlay also make a popular range called Cloud 9 which does come in 9mm, maybe the fitter made a genuine mistake. Ask your mum to double check, either by asking again or better yet look at the underlay packaging.0 -
I'm only asking just in case it's 6 mil theyre laying and told me 9 mil!
apparently 6 mil is total rubbish, I just want to know what I'm getting and they should be honest enough to tell me.
it's not cloud 9 as I uplifted the stair carpet and left the existing cloud 9 down on there as it felt like good quality.0 -

i'm not looking for a way out,
I really do want this carpet; just want to know what i'm actually paying for.
i'm on a tight budget after splitting up with my tyrant of an ex partner
(who also happens to be a carpet fitter!!!!)0
