Wanting new phone

Hi,
Had my sony ericsson w910i for ages now and I want a new phone. I've been with Orange for years now and I currently have a SIM only which I've had for about a year too.
The first part of my question is - I'm just wondering - if I call up sony ericsson to cancel my sim only - will they try keep me as a customer and give me a good deal? Or will they not really care being only a SIM only? (My average bill is prob around £25 a month).
The second part of my question is, do you know where I can get a good deal from? I need unlimited landline calls and don't care about how many minutes/texts - to me that leaves buying from Orange website or T-Mobile where I can get a contract for £15/20 with these phones:
HTC Touch 2
nokia 5800
toshiba tg01
samsung jet s8000
sony satio
blackberry curve 8520
sony ericsson w995
nokia e71
blackberry curve 8900
LG viewty smart gc900
Not sure which one to get, so I'm reading up on the reviews etc. Use my phone for music and calling - but getting into the apps thing from using my girlfriend's iphone. Any suggestions? Also, if Orange did try to keep me on, would I be able to negotiate a deal with them for one of these phones?
Appreciate any help.

Hi there
I used Techradar review site which had reasonable reviews and then used Omio to compare the ones I liked, I scored each element that was important to me (camera etc) just to narrow my selection down a bit, it also offers opportunity to check for deals, but be wary - not all deals are up to date so if you click on one you like for example the deal may be slightly different.
I can't give opinions on which to choose as I'm in a similar situation & as per my other thread still awaiting a phone! lol.
And as for batering with your current provider, as long as they have the phone listed on their site you should be ok - but I beleive there are other threads that discuss that in detail
But.. hopefully the above helps0 -
thanks for the reply

so are you currently choosing between the same phones as me? Or just some of the ones I've listed?
I'm no wiser - went to some mobile phone shops up town after I finished shopping to check out a few of the phones - none of them were working ones
hopefully i'll be able to get a deal but I'm not so sure.0 -
I would call up Orange and try to negotiate a deal with a phone. If you could post what you mostly use your phone for and what features that you would like e.g. touchscreen, internet, music etc, I could advise you on a phone.0

Hi there,
First of all, i went on some deal websites and found that I can get a 24th month contract for £20 each month and get sony ericsson satio or the HTC Hero Graphite for free - on the Orange website I'd have to shell out something extra like £190 for those phones.
I use my phone for music and calling landlines - will use max 100 texts and very little minutes a month to call other mobiles. I have a w910i at the moment and after playing about with my girlfriend's iphone for a while i'm starting to want something more like that.
So unless there is better, HTC hero graphite or sony satio?
What do you think?0 -
Ring Orange and see what kind of deal they would do for you on a HTC Hero, remember to get the internet add-on.0
-
what would you say is better, HTC hero or sony satio?
Also, like I said, I can get the racoon 20 deal + HTC hero on another website whereas if buying from Orange, I'd have to pay an extra £190 or something for the phone. I'm guessing Orange wouldn't be able to match it at all considering if I went with that deal, i'd still be paying Orange £20 a month for the sim?
I'd like to pay max £20 a month, but first and foremost comes landline calls (i use more than 1000 a month). T-mobile do unlimited landlines also for £15 but I havn't been able to find any good deals on phones.
i'll call up Orange next week or something after I've played about with some phones.
edit: could also get n97, blackberry 8520? and some other phones too.0 -
HI
Yeah I was looking at the similar phones for you and in the end opted for the Omnia 2 but thats only because it scored 2 better than Samsung (Voda) H1 / N97 mini and fared batter than HTC models (which I was trying to avoid as husband already has one - he thinks his is great he has the Hero and is surgically attached to it!)
If you've set yourself on one or two phones its always worth ringing the company to see if they're willing to do a deal, depending on your line rental price band sometimes they bother, sometimes not - from personal experience they tend to be more interested if you're spending £30+ pm.
If you're willing have you considered a phone trade in? (They offered £30 for my battered old thing which I didn't go for but it was on par with estimations)
I've gone with an internet company (which if you read my other post hasn't been peachy so far) however on getting my phone which would'nt have been available direct I've discovered that handily its 'sim unlocked' great! - I can test it on my current sim first.
Secondly the sim I have got is a 'sim only deal' which I guess is the reason why this internet company was able to offer such a fabby deal.0 -
I'd go for the Hero and you never know what Orange may offer you if you ring up. If you took the deal with the third party website and you wanted to keep your number, you'll have to PAC out to another network on payg and then PAC in again.0
