How did you decide on a theme

Hi all, I'm a bit stuck with picking colours for a theme, it's going to be a fairly traditional wedding. I've got my date for the engagement party so need to start getting the invites prepared and whilst I know how I want them I'm not sure on colours.
I need to decide on the invites as the seating plan and guestbook and order of service will be the same design
How did everyone else decide? Did you tie in with the flowers and dress or do the stationary all one colour and match everything else to it?

Hi well i am still planning the wedding so cant give you all the answers. I think you need to think of things that are important to you and what works with the venue. We are getting married in a Medieval hall so colours are burgundy and ivory as I feel they will work with the venue. The meal is in a restaurant with a seaview so the theme there will be the seaside and colours to match that. We love the sea and he proposed to me on the beach. Hopefully this should all work out. There are some good websites with colours and themes to help you. Brides.com colour studio. There was another thread where there was a link showing lots of different colours. Choose colours that you like and that suit the wedding party. Have fun !!We got married 17th April 2010 !! A wonderful day with my wonderful husband !! :T0

Choose a colour you like.
Have a scout around and see whats available in different colours, how much things cost etc etc.
I have chosen a few colours then found out i cant get extra items to fit in the scheme.
Also i find that this years hottest colour tends to be more expensive.
If you do try and tie a colour in with your flowers, make sure yo pick flowers that are in season when you get married as they will be cheaper.
Hence why i have settled for white and silver - easy to get hold of and very sparkly, which seems to be my theme.
Im having star gazer lillies in my bouquet so there will be a hint of pink in there somewhere. Just to break up the white.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0 -
I picked my colours by finding the invitations that I love the colour of White card with brown ribbon but was thinking of going for white, brown and pink as you can't really get brown flowers
Bit like ice cream

OH and I are very minimalistic (i.e. boring
) so we're going for champagne and ivory and a hint of sage to accent it.
I don't know if this is something for you to consider but was planning to get my bridesmaid dresses (have 6) from Coast... they don't really have much selection in champagne colour so it might be worth considering what colours are 'in season'.

I just went with my favourite colour and that worked out perfectly in the end.
I did have a few colour scheme ideas, lilacs and silver, chocolate and gold etc but those were all really based on reading too many wedding magazines.I had colour scheme ideas for scottish weddings, winter weddings, highland weddings, castle weddings, everything from tartans to sparkly white winter wonderlands.
When I ignored what everyone else was doing and thought about what I really wanted I ended up with my fav colour which is purple.
We had deep purple and white and it was absolutely perfect.
Lexxi, whats your favourite colour?"Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
After much thought on the subject I took my bridesmaids shopping in the sales, they picked a dress they like and it happened to be blue so that's my theme - moral of the story: it's easier to let someone else decide!0

Debenhams had THE most gorgeous purple grecian maxi dress in the sale would look fab for bridesmaids... even OH was obsessed with it- but we've orded too much in champagne now to change our minds x0 -
that's what I did - got my adult bridesmaids to choose what colour they wanted between them, then used that. Easy!0

Hey steph - i am having brown in my colour scheme....the brown/ivory bouquet in my mood board is my ACTUAL bouquet!! So it isn't impossible to have brown flowers lol!!
OP - try going on the Dessy website and making your own mood boards with colours you like....you might find that really helpful to help "see" how ur scheme works together! this is mine http://www.dessy.com/shareboard/?user=moodboardguest&password=6935
Here is the link to do your own - you need to register but i havent had anything email-wise off them at all.... http://www.dessy.com/styleboard/Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -

We got a dark blue a-line full length dress from debenhams (was on website but must have sold out). Really nice and suits both of my bridesmaids who are about as different physically as two people can be!0
