Hi we were looking at Keycamp / Eurocamp but want a site nearer Calais - any recommendations or thoughts? Never been to France so wanted to try one close to the tunnel as we have 2 kids under 4.

Wil look at Select Camp - we need to go 31st July or 7th Augst for a week stuck with either of those weeks so we know it is going to be expensive.

Has anyone used the super tent option, are they ok?

    Thanks

We used to take our tourer to this site www.camping-bien-assise.fr/en.html which is just outside Calais. Lovely campsite, swimming pool etc. I think it is a Eurocamp site with tent/caravan options. Shop on site was a bit expensive but supermarkets within easy reach. Stock up with goodies at the hypermarkets. French bread, prawns (much cheaper then here, very good prawn sauce with a hint of whisky from Carrefour), mussels and a bottle of red or white, heaven!

We used to always drive to our Keycamp holidays and would no one-night stopovers at other campsites on the way. There are some sites that are very commonly used for this (I used to be work for Keycamp and Eurocamp, which are indeed part of the same company Holidaybreak)
As someone mentioned, they send you quite a lot of offers once you start receiving the paper brochure, not sure if they send much out by email.

Beziers airport is tiny and would be really easy to travel from there to Serignan Plage. Would probably take you no more than about 20 minutes. We travelled past it any time we went towards Vias/Sete etc.
The reasons we aren't flying to there is because a) whenever I look at the car hire, it tells me that the offices are not open and b) from Bristol, Ryanair are charging a LOT more than Easyjet are for Bristol-Toulouse

We ended up booking through Thomson al fresco : http://www.thomsonalfresco.co.uk/?cmpid=search0001&s_kwcid=search0001&gclid=CPWn5PzknJ8CFQZBlAodb3j9LA

There mobile homes all have air con and have a decked area with seating outside the mobile home and seem to be a bit cheaper than eurocamp.

Thomson is also on quidco , although it doesn't specifically mention the mobile homes.

was looking at prob staying at bourges , seems about half way . HOPING FOR DISCOUNTS

Hi I would recommend that you do an overnight stop at Bourges to break the journey. We used to drive to Spain, Costa Brava and this was always our stopover point. I would recommend Mr Bed for a cheap overnight stay there is also an Etap, Hotel BB and one or two other chains as well in the vicinity of each other.
You should also look into booking direct with the site as it usually works out a fair bit cheaper and then book a cheap channel crossing.
I'd say give this type of holiday a try I'm sure you will think it is fabulous, we did.

We did keycamp last year around this area & are using Siblu this year because none of the 3 beds with air con or decking were left when we booked (back in Oct!)

We are taking the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen, it arrives at about 6am then we will drive all the way down stopping for a few wee breaks & some lunch (we usually pack our own lunch & stop in one of the nice picnic places that they have at the side of their roads) I think it was about 10 hours driving, so about 12 hours in total. We have 2 little ones so lots of toys in the car & a DVD player!

Last year we stopped at Tours on the way back. This year we have decided to drive all the way back in one day & do the overnight ferry.

Get air con, it gets hot otherwise. Also we always have decking as a lot of the pitches are on dusty ground & this way you have an extra room (we tend to eat all our meals outside).

Worth looking on quidco, I know Siblu are on there. Also see if your prefered company are doing any cashbacks (again I know Siblu are).

    Have a great holiday.

Can't help you with the campsite, we live 15 minutes from Dover so stopping off near Calais would be a little silly! The Calais area isn't the best though, think about going a little further afield to get a taste of real France. The roads are great and nothing at all to worry about.

We've been using super tents for years. They're far more comfortable than "real" camping. You may miss a sink & hot water, but there are always facilities nearby, or you can boil a kettle! With two nippers though, I'd be inclined to request a pitch near toilet facilities.

We've used most of the main companies...and I'd suggest that the best tents for you may be the canvas holidays ones. We used one in Brittany last year and I remember wishing we'd gone with them when the kids were small as they have a separate kitchen area with a safety gate. Have fun!

I would echo that, having been with all the major companies, Canvas, in my opinion is superior by a long shot. Although we generally stop in the mobile homes now (5 females, need shower facitilites ), after stopping with Keycamp last year, I can say without a doubt we will never book with them again. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, their reps are jumped up teens and twenty-somethings that don't know their !!! from their elbows and their mobile homes have definitely seen better days!
