  • Luckily, the only time I accidentally sent someone the wrong item, it was a pair of unsold school trousers in place of the similar but longer pair the customer had bought. I realised what I'd done before she got the parcel, so sent her an apologetic message explaining the situation, and that the correct trousers would be in the post asap. It would hardly have been worth the expense of returning the other pair, so I said she should keep them if they were of any use to her family, or otherwise give them to a friend or her local charity shop / jumble sale / school.
Interesting that DVDs were mentioned. I always check when buying at car boot sales etc, and I'm surprised at how many DVDs, games and tapes are in the wrong cases. I got caught out when I bought a video from my local Barnardo's charity shop, because I assumed that a major charity shop would already have checked their stock before putting it on the shelf, but no, I got The Simpsons instead of The Dark Crystal. My DS, though he does like The Simpsons, was disappointed, so I finished up buying The Dark Crystal a couple of weeks later at a boot sale.

This happened to me once. I bought a service item for my brand new van. The seller sent me another similar item by mistake. I e mailed the seller to let them know and simply received the correct item in the post.

I've nearly done this myself. I sold some Haynes manuals and picked one out of the box for an escort 1980 to 1990, I nearly wrapped it when I looked at my listing and noticed that it was a different colour to the one in the photo. The one I meant to send was a 1990 to 2000 escort manual.

I think I would have just asked the buyer to keep it or sell it on.

I know it is a risk

But, I post all my items on completion of the auction whether paid or not

I guess I believe in the essesntial honestness of people

I know most items, are under £15 so the risk is not too great

On the upside, I do have some stunning feedback
