WEP used to be fine, but unfortunately it's now only marginally better than nothing - it can be cracked by anyone that has a wireless laptop and can spell Google. So you really need to change it to WPA or WPA2, which will involve logging into the router, changing it, then rejoining all your wireless devices. It would be best do do the change on a wired rather than wireless connection.purplecatlover wrote: »says WEP
I think you may need to look at turning off the BT Openzone as well0 -
any directions anywhere on how to log into the router and how to change it? (ill google tomorrow, the purpose of this post is to remind me to do so).
bt openzone cliams to be only for business routers, but shall try and figure that out more tomorrow too as i apparently have an excellent signal strength for it just like my network, unlike the rest showing in my available ones.
thanks for helping

just google hack a wireless connection show you how easy it is for someone to hack your router0

I think there are a few of these things that BT do under different names for home/business - does btfon ring any bells.0 -
I find it interesting to note that all these telecom companies will tell you your exact itemised bill for phone, yet stay strangely silent for broadband, I mirror the thoughts above, get rid of them.
You dont mention who sent you this letter, wanadoo perchance?
I am currently on talktalk and they are great, I do all my surfing at night when everyone is asleep so not using anybody elses bandwidth so they leave me alone, even though I have been known to use 10gb in a single night xD"Don't blink. Internet is the World Wide Web. The whole place is awake when you are on it....0 -
Virgin cable broadband
Its 9.9Mb/sec ALWAYS
no loss from old copper BT loops (max is 1.5mb on BT in this area, usually 1Mb)
Its never gone down, well once one a digger broke the cable for 4 hours.
UNLIMITED download
(some capping if you use it commercially, ie max it out constantly)
Highly reccomended0 -
Virgin publish their capping policy. It is not as generous as you suggest...

I used to have a good account with Eclipse which gave me uncapped usage for about £18 pm.
But, when I got Sky, it seemed to make sense financially to switch to their broadband and stuff.
However, now I also have the 10gb cap, and am regretting it. I haven't used it much over Christmas, and yet I have already used over 7gb, and that allowance is up until 27th Jan :S
If you go over twice with Sky, they apparently automatically upgrade you to their unlimited service, which (I think) isn't actually unlimited, it's 40gb pm.0 -

Yes, but I am the only one using the actual thingymajig/hub/thing that doles out your connection at 3am aren't I?
That makes a huge difference in some cases.
And I don't live in the center of London, but a small town up North."Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0
