Hi,
i am hoping someone may be able to offer some advice on the problem am finding myself in at the moment. - appolgoise this is a long post.
Me and my fiance went to look at a little house near us to rent, its lovely and we called the letting agent straight away to say we were interested. there was some problem with the date we provided (we said 18th feb originally).
We have had a lot of trouble getting hold of the lady at the agents who is dealing with the property - lots messages left etc. she emailed my OH stating that feb was too late and the landlady wanted the property filled by end jan as she is living there at present.
We worked out the sums and said we could do this -My OH called trying to speak with the lady all day - constantly being told she wasnt working in the office and was only taking calls at certain points out of meetings, i also left 3 messages yday for the lady to call me back telling them we could have the deposit there for end of week and we could move any date in jan that was needed. (again no phone call back)
then my OH got a text this morning saying the landlady doesnt want to proceed with the renting of the house and sorry no more information for us.
Well, we were gutted as we have proper fallen in love with it.
Then i looked online and there is the house still now with pictures on the locationwebsites - so i emailed for a viewing interested in what would come back, and i got an email stating they are arranging viewings for saturday morning and could i let her know how many in family, how long contract looking for and if we had pets.
I emailed back (not letting on at all that we had viewd place already) and asked the normal questions = how much deposit, times of viewings etc.
What we are confused about is why would my OH be told not proceeding yet I was told that they could arrange a viewing on place...
what do we do?! why would this happen?
Should we just go to the lettings agent and have deposit money on us? sorry it is a long post but I am very confused!

For reasons unexplained it appears that your prospective landlady has decided that she doesn't want you and your OH as tenants. Contact the agents and ask why this is so. A straight question deserves a straight answer.0

There must be something else...
It sounds like for some reason the LL has decided not to rent to you. Pets? Failed credit check? Reference?
Unfortunately no reason need be given and it's really up to the LL who she rents to. Unless you can prove racial discrimination there is little you can do.
Might be worth visiting the agent (with the deposit as you suggest) and asking direct. Won't do any harm.
Who knows, perhaps there's been a misunderstanding that you can clear up.0 -
I would walk away, how hard is she going to be to get hold of if the roof falls in or the hot water tank leaks and caves in your ceiling, if you can't get hold of her now, when you want to GIVE her money?? :rolleyes:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

thankyou for your advice so far on this guys.
its just so strange, she was such a lovely lady - the owner showed us round, was chatting away - talking bout her holiday etc, showing us the place garden etc.
we got an email back from the lettings agent saying they would send the referencing forms to my OH email address, she did a test email and then never sent them through - thats why my OH started chasing the emails/calls yday.
]part of me does think just forget it, but its so frustrating when somewhere is right place, size, money etc. hadnt even got to a stage of getting our names or anyhting.
hmm, have to have a think. thankyou !!!:heart2:Married my Prince Charming on 15th April 2011 - perfect day!

Hi Curlylou
I don't wish to be rude but how old are you? Me and my OH are in our early 20s and when we were looking to but lots of people didn't take us seriously so could that be the problem with the LL?0 -
I think to be honest that is what was the problem - i am almost 24 (do look younger) and my fiance is 25. Our current place is a small 1 bed flat, we talked with my OH parents and they suggested same thing.
The strange thing is is that i have been OK'd a viewing via email for saturday morning, and was told that it would be around 3 weeks time when the land lady wants to move out....compellty different to what was originally told via text!
my OH wants me to go on saturday (AS he is at work and to take his mum) and see who it is shoing around, and explain that we are looking for a long term rent to settle, we plaaing to get married etc and see what is said so that we can move on from there with bit more understanding....so who knows?!:heart2:Married my Prince Charming on 15th April 2011 - perfect day!

Oh, I'd definitely show up for the viewing. It's possible that the landlady may not remember you, especially if you have a different person with you. At the very least you can then ask a direct question about why you appear to have been rejected the first time round. Maybe all it needs is reassurance about your sense of responsibility or perhaps a greater deposit to secure the home of your dreams.
Good luck!0 -
I hate it when people are like that just because your young and they think your messing about. We took my OHs parents to some of the viewings when we were looking at rentals and more recently buying.
Good luck and I hope everything works out for you both and good luck with the wedding
