Barclays - Card Cash Account

This is the basic bank account, with a debit card, no extras or overdrafts, sounds just like what I need.
You have to apply in branch, so does anybody know if there is credit check involved (had credit problems when 1st became a student you see)?

Also, what card is it you get with the account?
Visa?
Electron?

No credit check is involved. They just check your ID and if you have a record of fraud.

Only one piece of photo ID is needed to open the account.

It comes with a Visa debit card.
  • Thanks for your reply!
Sounds just like what I need, might call into my local branch tomorrow then!

Just take me 2 forms of ID with me!
I got a good job at the moment and am paying everything I ever lent off so would be great to get this!

I thought it was Electron they gave to people with poor credit?

  • Oh right!
Is the card a full Visa then?

Also, is the definately not a credit check?

It will be a full Visa, which will check your bank account to see if you have enough money for the transaction. If not, it will decline. If it has enough money, transaction goes through.

There will be no credit checking, as it's not a 'credit' product.
  • That is great, thanks a lot mate!
Will help me out loads this will!
Cant book trains online at the moment with this Electron I got:/

    You're welcome.

Which bank are you with that offers an Electron card?
  • I'm with Halifax, its the Easycash Account.
Ive had the card since Feburary 2008

Shouldnt it be that no more?

Close the Halfiax account once the Barclays one is open. Barclays is better.

I've heard that Halifax Easycash account hs limited facilities. It doesn't allow you to deposit money over the counter, withdraw less than £300, and make a routine enquiry about your account. Barclays allow you to do things over the conunter.
  • Ohright thanks for that, with this Halifax account I have actually deposited money in the bank before, but, using the machine in the bank. It is rather basic though, and, I find Halifax a bit crap on the customer service side as well really.

I just didnt think I could get that account with Barclays as it wasnt an Electron card they offer, but, if they one they offer is the same sort of, just without the branding I might as well go for it! I also thought I would get turned down through credit check, but, if they dont do that I'm going for it!

Just got go in branch now!
