I have a baxi boiler and the pilot has gone out and wont re light. Im holding in the grey button and pressing the black ignition thingy and nothing is happening. Doesnt even appear to be a spark.
Its cold and theres loads snow here so I doubt an engineer could get out to me.
Any suggestions ?

Are you sure the gas supply hasnt been cut off? Maybe check with your neighbours or see if your gas cooker is working if you have one!If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0

sometimes with the piezo sparky thingy near to the thermocouple, the porcelaine insulation cracks off and then the spark shorts down to earth and will not light the pilot light. other than that it is probably the thermocouple itself has perrished.....needs replacing....hope this helps. There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

Surely if the thermocouple has gone, the pilot light will light OK but go out when you release the grey button.
The faulty piezo spark generator seems more plausible, but it seems a coincidence that the pilot light went out and the spark generator failed.
I cannot think it would do any harm to see if the pilot light would light with a lit taper - with the boiler switched off. That would rule out the spark generator.0 -
evening Cardew, I guess if the thermocouple has gone, the first stage of the gas valve won't open to allow gas through to let the pilot light... light. therefore using a lighted taper won't light it, all said... its a long time since I messed about with one of those, so you may be right....There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!
