""people assume that any attempt to fix the problem must be an evil LL!"

sadly this is so par for the course lately on MSE - the "norm" response has become landlord-bashing - any assumption based on incorrect or insufficient information is generally ""evil LL""

in reality the number of disputed deposits as declared by the various Schemes is absolutely tiny

yet if you read only MSE you would imagine that every LL in the country is a theiving lying scumbag......

sometimes it makes be wonder why i bother postiing at all

""She re-registers it every year following a contract renewal.
Sorry GM, Your right that didnt make much sense!""

with Mydeposits - if a tenancy is renewd with a new agrement, (rather than going onto periodic) then the LL has to PAY ANOTHER FEE to protect the tenant's deposit

i am going to start charging the tenant for this - as i really find this utterly unpalatable..... if its the tenants money.. as we are told over and over again.... let them pay to protect it second time round.....

Just out of interest- what will you do if they refuse to pay it? I no longer rent, but if my previous landlords had said this I would have been a bit miffed because surely it's just another of the (many) costs of being a LL and presumably rent is calculated to cover these costs.

Maybe people shouldn't use Mydeposits then! As a tenant, I wouldn't be happy having to pay for my lease to be renewed, plus extra to the deposit scheme. Smacks of Mydeposits using it as a money making scheme!

The forwarding address is perfectly understandable. How the LL/ TDS know where to send the deposit?? We used my parents. I don't see a problem tbh .

i will increase my admin fees (which are currently less than one third of those charged by high street natioinal letting agents) and i dont charge tenancy renewal fees either or inventory fees (yet)

As LL you choose which scheme to use so it seems right you pay. If the tenant is paying then perhaps you should give them the choice of which scheme to use and let them choose the most tenant friendly one, or the cheapest one ...

""Smacks of Mydeposits using it as a money making scheme!"" - mydeposits organise an insurance policy for tenants money.. someone has to pay for that insurance...

they get much cheaper bulk policies than individual landlords could purchase....

If they won't pay then they stay on the existing AST which becomes a periodic tenancy. TDS doesn't charge for continueing to cover a deposit already protected under an AST that then becomes periodic.

I was only concerned, as I hadn't had to give her this info at any other TDS renewal. So didn't understand why she was after this information now.

    Thank you for your replies.
