We have been given two Blackberrys by a couple who have upgraded. Both phones are Blackberry 8120 models.
I have charged them up and put my O2 simcard in. Then nothing happens.
I can access all the features, just cannot make or receive calls.
Being technically useless, does anybody have any easy to follow instructions?
Thanks

What phone network were the phones originally on?
Do you have the Blackberry service active on your account?
Does the phone show your network name?0 -
Yes sounds like it at the bear min you should get a signal. If they upgraded ask the friends to ask the carrier for the unlocking code, a long process but simple when done once0

Hi watcherman.
The phones were on 02 same as ourselves. As a result of your reply,I have just rang 02 to ask if I had Blackberry and the operator stated that I needed a 3G sim card. O2 will now send one in the post.
I think that may have been the problem.
Thanks for your assistance.0 -

Thanks to you also, I do have an 02 signal, above reply says it all really. I did say I wasnt technically gifted.:D0 -
I think the operator has just fobbed you off as the 8120 doesn't have 3G. I would ring back and ask again, as I don't think a 3G sim will solve the problem.0

Just to clarify, you also need to make sure you get the BB bolt-on if you want the push (instant) e-mail and blackberry messenger.0

Agreed it only has GPRS or EDGE. You do sometimes need a different SIM though, we have had this when deploying our vodafone ones. A recent O2 sim though should be fine.
Thanks all, you were all right. My sim is about 7 years old. The phone has EDGE and the operator has now confirmed I need upgrading on my sims and bolt-ons. Free of charge as I have been on contract with 02 and their predescessors since 1987. Wish I had kept the original phone but it wouldnt fit in the removal van when we moved a year or so after I bought it.0
