hi,
looking to have a ceiling overboarded and skimmed, and also 6 recessed downlights fitted and wired up. (it needs overboarding not just skimming)
ceiling is 3 metre square roughly.
what should i be looking to pay??

Hi, I paid £400 for plastering and £150 for down lights, but it was a bigger room and they did the walls as well.
Hope this helps0 -
I had to get quotes for this yesterday.
Take down £10 per sq m (including skip)
Put up new board £15 per sq m
Plastering £15 per sq mbaldly going on...0 -
For the plastering only £250 inc all materials&possible scaffold?0

no scaffold needed for the job. cheers.
so would you say £400 to overboard, re skim, and fit 6 recessed downlights???0 -
are you overboarding? or taking town and re-boarding?0
-
If the existing ceiling is lath and plaster you would be advised to remove the lath as wood should be kept away from the downlightsbaldly going on...0

you are looking at about £300 ish for a room 3x3 with 6 down lights0

cheers, just overboarding the existing plasterboard. would it be easier just to take the existing ceiling down?
i suppose i could take existing ceiling down to save a few quid.0 -
Allan,
That's why i asked, if you're paying £10 a square meter to remove and take to the tip, you have to ask yourself if you really need it, and if you could do it yourself (can be quite messy)
Board Rate seems ok, skim rate seems high for 3mm of skim - looking for approx £5-£10/m2
but if you can get it boarded and skimmed for £300 that's not too bad
Could you do the lights yourself?
I'd expect to pay £10 per light - £60 plus fitting.
Should be able to have the lot done for under £5000
