Just a further update for any1 interested.

My return train tickets for the sunday went on sale on fri so i went to purchase then--was costing us around £88 for both returns to Edinburgh. I was curious, so i priced returns on the monday afternoon instead, and it was £33 for both! So to be sneaky i went onto travelodge, found a room on the sunday nite at Travelodge Covent garden for £35. ......So i booked the room, then booked the monday return tickets--total cost being £88---the same amount for only train tickets on the sunday. We are now staying 2 nights in Hilton Metropole, then 1 night in Covent garden travelodge.
I was fair proud of myself, getting basically a free night! YEY!!!

Just a quick update on this.
I have decided to just bite the bullet and i booked the Hilton London Metropole as recommended by Doozergirl. I got Fri 9th and sat 10th April for £186.33 including breafast both days and complimentary Late Checkout on the sunday of 6pm!! I thought it was a fab deal and too good to turn down.
I booked our train down to london yesterday--Advanced purchase on east coast trains was £24.90 each and is direct from Edinburgh. Just need to wait til next week to book our return tickets, which should be around the same price. YEY! :j

Once again many thanks to everyone who helped me out and made suggestions. I will be on again nearer the time to get some more advice on things to do when were there.

    Hi Dov,

I am looking to book the same hotel for a weekend in June, how did you manage to get late check out? also did it state you got this after payment or before.

    Thanks

Hi Jayne, i will put a link to the site with all the details, basically with there being a 50% sale on all weekends or "minibreaks" it states your minibreak includes
    - Lazy breakfast until 11am
    - Late checkout until 6pm
    - Kids stay and eat for free

Remember though you must book it quick--offer ends on 31st january.

    Hi Dov,

Thank you for your quick response,

I have just booked two nights in June but my confirmation still states that check out is 12pm is yours saying the same thing?

Think I will take a print out with me just in case,

Also my booking is saying your smoking preference will be submitted to the hotel and is subject to availability when I didnt even request one, very strange.

Anyway thanks again and have a great time
    Jayne.

Dov, I have just found this regarding late check out on there website it reads:

Late checkout and late breakfast policy for weekends
Late checkout till 6pm and late breakfast till 11am is applicable for Minibreak checkouts on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday). The local market defines the weekend and therefore in certain countries late checkout and late breakfast may only be available on a Friday and Saturday. Late checkout is subject to availability and will not be confirmed until check-in.

So looks like we will have to wait and see on the day.
