Weekend break in London(help needed)

Hi there i will soon be looking into booking a weekend break in London and any help is very much apreciated.

It will be 2or3 nights for 4 adults all around 30 ish :rotfl:. I am considering 2 options (1) An apartment for 4. I have seen some lovely ones on hoseasons--modern stylish with great views--however i am unsure whether it will suit our needs. (2) A nice Hotel!
Im also unsure how much this will all cost, but hopefully pick up a bargain!

We will be doing all the usual touristy things, so ideally would prefer to be as central as possible, close to attractions, Popular bars, Restaurants etc. None of us have been before so any we are unaware where to start looking!!

We will probably fly form Edinburgh or if must Glasgow, and it will more than likely be the weekend of 10th April. I have never booked flights online and am a bit wary of prices quoted, but i see deals for 1p flights all the time---help me find some of that please! :rotfl:

Anything you think may be helpful im grateful--whether it be--where to stay, where to go, Location, Deals, Flight deals, links to sites etc.

Many thanks.

will you be doing all of the london tourist attractions. outer london you have windsor with its castle and river thames too. also £5 toby carvery which is nice and opposite river in windsor.
london eye in london, duck tours that go in the water, war museum (good for about 1 hour - they cafe a bit pricey for what it is), you have the art galleries if you are into that. shopping for the ladies in kington which also has shops like primark and decent coffee shops.
though lived in central london I think a day in london is enough for me!!! also other half runs salsa clubs if you want to try that out!

Any idea on budget for the accommodation? That'll help people recommend places...

If you're going to stay in something like a Travelodge, you'd be best off in one of the central London ones - the Covent Garden one is in Drury Lane, right in the middle of shopping, bars, restaurants (Drury Lane theatre has Oliver on right now). Or Kings Cross is a great building, bit further north though. The Premier Inn (I think they're all pretty much the same) most central is the one at County Hall which is on the south bank, right next to the London Eye and overlooking the Thames, near the National Theatre, Tate Modern, Hayward Gallery.

But why don't you try googling hotel deals - you've got ages to go yet.

Well it wil defo depend on what the travelling costs are, but say if were staying for 2 nights, id b happy with anything up to the £150 mark per couple for accomodation (is that realistic)? That way it wil give us plenty to do the trips and get a nice meal, party etc! :j.
May consider travelling by train now, a few people i know say its alot easier!?!?!

Im probably not goin to stay in a travel inn/ lodge etc---I'd rather get a lovely hotel, or a nice apartment.

I will have a look for some hotel deals and train deals, but im rather bad at that!!!

    Thanks.

Thanks 4 the reply--i dont think i will go for a travelodge--its my wifes birthday and its our 1st trip to london and would like a nice hotel, and basically something to remember.

Yeah got loads of time, just trying to gather ideas from people who actually have a clue--unlike myself!!

    Thanks

Weekends are 50% so for two nights my choice would be the Hilton Green Park which is actually behind the Hilton Park Lane. It's small, neat cosy and friendly and at the moment will be £79.50 per room per night inc breakfast based on you stopping for 2 nights.

Or my other choice is ever so slightly less central - not much mind, it's still easy to navigate - you can walk down to Marble and it's right opposite the tube station anyway. And that is the Hilton Metropole which has a pool (not many of those in Central London!). It's also really tall with a lovely restaurant on the top floors with views across London. I'm down in London in Feb and gutted that I can't use this deal as I need to be there on a weekday for The Brits - these are real bargain prices for decent London Hotels.

Lastminute.com is a fabulous resource for going out deals in London - you'll find 10% off the London Eye, reduced west end shows and comedy nights, boat trips and all sorts. You used to be able to get a 2 for 1 on the Tussauds attractions with a train ticket.

There is no need to stop out in the sticks. Richmond is lovely to spend time at but for a two or three day visit, there is more than enough to do in the centre of London. Shopping in Kingston when you have Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Bond Street, Portobello Rd market, Borough Market, Kings Road or Westfield on the doorstep?

Spend one day on the weekend starting at the London Eye and walk along the South Bank down to London Bridge, past the Royal Festival Hall etc, Tate Britain, the Oxo Tower and all it's little design shops down to Borough Market. There's loads to see and do and there are loads of restaurants along the way - print off every restaurant voucher from Martin's list and then choose as you go! You can spend no money at all on that day or spend away happily. You can walk even further down to Tower Bridge if you can make it that far. There are restaurants and bars on the river there too. Seriously, you have other attractions like the London Dungeons, the Globe Theatre, Vinopolis all along that walk - you don't have to make any decisions until you are there already and you won't see any cars. As a Londoner, it's my favourite part of the city.

Lastminute.com is really good for london hotels and theatre tickets. i have stayed in one of the top secret hotels before - you can sometimes work out which hotel they are talking about by the description, star rating and area. I always use them for all my theatre tickets and had some really good deals.

Also you can use your clubcard vouchers for a lot of london attactions and restaurants. For good restaurant deals it is worth looking at Toptable.

Hope you have a great weekend

As for flights, you should use Martin's flightchecker for the budget airlines but in my own experience, I get wound up by all the extra charges which mean you end up paying the same as BA anyway.

BA will be £82.50 return each from Edinburgh to London Heathrow, no BS. You can fly early on Saturday morning and fly late back on Monday without mucking around trying to find the cheapest combination that allows you the best use of time. If you stayed at the Hilton Metropole, you could get the Heathrow Express straight into Paddington and then the tube one stop to Edgware Road. The hotel is immediately opposite the tube station IIRC.

The other airports, apart from City are situated some way out of London so balance your prices carefully.
