sorry i just reread it and it came across as being slightly rude

it wouldnt be so bad if the game was for me but its for my OH who has decided to go to bed and leave me to get on with it  though saying that id rather he didnt touch my pc as im sure he doesnt have a clue what he is doing half the time :rotfl:
just trying everything i can to try and get it to work but so far im not having much luck
i dont fancy the seller coming back to me and saying well if you read the listing and did what it said then it would work - if you know what i mean at least if i try everything i can i will know it is the game and not my system  The Only Thing Men Can Do Right Is Get Everything Wrong

essexhoney wrote:thats what im going through at the moment but it appears i dont have system32 on this machine for some reason about to install a BFU to replace it.
this is far too much hassle for 4 quid lmao
erm........what's a BFU??????
EVERY windows XP machine will have a \system32 directory there is something fundementally wrong if your computer is missing that
are you sure of the directory where windows is installed?
mine had defaulted to the following, and has both files available, they're in uppercase on my PC, the path in the explorer 'address bar' is below
C:\WINNT\system32\AUTOEXEC.NT
C:\WINNT\system32\CONFIG.NTmoney saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

BFU is a brute force uninstaller it should replace any missing files that a pc is missing.
the pc was originally in an internet cafe which my partner used to run until it closed down at the beginning of the year, and from being there it was subject to so much abuse it was unbelievable so it doesnt suprise me that it is missing but the BFU should replace it - or im hoping so anyway! The Only Thing Men Can Do Right Is Get Everything Wrong

Agreed. There is nothing in the seller's disclaimers to suggest that the description may be incorrect. In theory, software for use with Windows ought to work on later versions, but in practice, XP has a lot of back-compatibility problems. I woud politely request a refund on the ground that the item was misdescribed. If they argue, politely point out that you are entitled to a refund under the Trades Descriptions Act, and if they still won't refund, start a chargeback.Moglex wrote:I think that's the seller's problem, not the purchaser's.
Obviously programs released before XP could not state XP compatibility and yet the vast majority will work perfectly happily under XP.
So you expect the seller to provide information that the original manufacturer could not possible have forseen.
They did provide this information, and it was wrong so it's their problem. The fact that the seller could not ascertain that the sales information was incorrect without breaking the seal is unfortunate, but should not cause any difficulty unless the seller "tries it on".0 -

it says in the listing that he wont reply to any emails regarding compatability issues.......
i would request his contact details and give him a ring.I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

File a dispute with paypal - if nothing else you'l get some communiction with the seller. Having one of those paypal dispute emails coming into their mailbox seems to concentrate their mind wonderfully.0
