I didn't know where to post this- what catergory does a major hair emergency come under? I don't think anyone will have the answer to this. I have just coloured my hair and whilst I normally put a blonde colour on as I have a lot of grey hair and have had since I was young I decided to go for a darker shade which was described as light brown and you wouldn't believe my hair--it looks almost black!! I have phoned up the company who makes it and they say there is nothing that can be done!! Any ideas?? I'm frightened to step out of the door!!!!

I put myself in the same position as you, loads of grey, decided on a change from golden blonde to ash blonde - total disaster, it went pale black !
I got some stuff from Boots, sorry I can't remember the brand, which was for stripping all colour from hair and it certainly did, but my usual golden blonde which I used immediately afterwards worked. The colour remover is quite strong, so if you have a sensitive skin you might want to try an unobtrusive test patch first. Good luck and loads of sympathy

I found using a strong dandruff shampoo and having about six seperate shampoos with it one after the other lightened my hair a lot! I had to do something as DH thought I was wearing a hat!

But you will need to condition it like mad afterwards!

have done the same thing myself before.
try using washing up liquid on hair, but do condition well after.
another thing you could try is putting peroxide (20 vol ) from any chemist, on hair and comb through, leave for 10mins,this should lighten your hair, but please, please do a strand test first as you don't want it going from bad to worse.
    good luck
  • Perhaps try washing-up liquid. It's supposed to strip colour from hair too.

    Good luck!

If I had all the money I'd spent on drink, I'd spend it on drink.

Thanks everyone! Sorry I've been chatting to Aunt on phone who has had many hair disasters herself in the past and I shall now try another couple of washes with medicated shampoo and then I agree with Josiegirl ,I am going to slap a bit of makeup on put on a loud pair of earings and then I'm heading out!! S*d em all !! I am lucky compared to some, at least I've got hair which is more than some poor souls have got. And anyway it fits in with my current life style at the moment as I'm having a midlife crisis. So after having jacked my job in after many years they will all think it's part of the plan and will await my next move with baited breath!!

I did the same thing 2 days before my wedding - the main thing is dont panic (mine was patchy brown and black).
Firstly try Head and shoulders but I did this and washed my hair 10 times till my head felt numb and it did nothing
    1) put a hat on and get down the shops.
    2) buy a hair colour stripping kit and a couple of spare colour dyes (for backup)
    3) find a friend who fancies taking a gamble with you (a bottlle of wine can help so at least you can both laugh about it together!)
    4) put the stripper on but keep checking it every couple of mins (the one I had said leave on for 20 mins but I took it off after 10 as it had lifted it quite a bit and I didn't want to chance any more)
4a) cross your fingers whilst this is on ;)
    5) deep condition your hair fro about 10 mins cos remember you have done a lot to it in one day!
    6) leave it a couple of days or more if you can before you attempt to put another colour on (unless you fancy a gamble like me as I couldn't go to the wedding like it as it didn't match my hair piece!)

    I hope this helps

this sounds really daft too but totally works- wack a load of tomato ketchup on the colour and leave for about half an hour- wash it out (and i agree a dandruff shampoo works best) and you will see a big difference.

I know this sounds unbelievable but it does work! Used it on my DD at the weekend after she had spend most of it in the pool and had a nice green tinge to her hair.

Ps my mum is a hairdresser and swears by this in a colouring disaster!
