Well ran net stumbler and only one other person on my channel and my, oh my, it all seems to be running fine now.
I do like the idea of the HomePlugs. The guy who is in charge of refurbing our place has suggested running another telephone connection into my office.
One other person on your channel is all it needs to screw up your connection. Did you change the channel as advised?
The reason it may now be running OK is that your neighbour has turned his off. As soon as he's back on again, the problem will return. No free lunch, and no free laptop

OK will do. Wasn`t aware that just one other user could mess it all up. Thanks. It must be a nightmare should you live in a high density area.0

Although you'll see 13 channels listed there is considerable overlap as that InSSIDer display will make clear. The awful truth is that only 1 6 and 11 don't overlap any others.
Two or even more can coexist on the same frequency but you'll almost certainly have issues when they do. Best to find a clear channel if you can and if there are problems recheck.
If you are considering running a phone extension then imo you'd be better off running ethernet instead as routers are best located at the master and if you can also arrange no extensions at all then that is best for ADSL. DECT phones work very well and are very convenient too. Unfortunately some come with cheap and nasty power supplies which can cause problems though

Switched to channel 4 and it looks like it`s fixed it. Thanks everyone for your input. Oh and thanks kwickbreaks for your support regarding expresso. I did think the remarks were uncalled for.0
