After reinstalling XP, I am using my Sagem router. Loaded up my Belkin usb wireless dongle but have a problem. It has detected my wireless network and indeed, using Windows zero configuration, shows a strong signal. However it refuses to connect. Any thoughts please?

Sounds like the passphase is wrong - it has to be eXaCt0

Occasionally when you are adding new devices such as this, it is useful to disable the router security until it is all connected nicely.
Saves chasing your tail looking into the wrong areas.

So, to be absolutely clear, you are adamant that you are not using the Belkin client software, but instead WZC. Have a look also at this thread to check that WZC has indeed been configured correctly (with screenshots).Loaded up my Belkin usb wireless dongle but have a problem. I usually go through this process when it happens to me:
A. Right click on the network icon on the Task Bar and click Diagnose and Repair. If you get the option to reset network adaptor or renew IP address then try those.
B. If not then try turning off the router for few mins then restatrt it and if no luck then a hard reset of your router which should be on the instruction manual or find it online. The reset would mean you would need to reconnect all other wireless devices (other PCs Printers) to it if you have any.Minds are like parachutes - they only function when open.

Apologies for starting a new thread today on this subject. I have been gracefully linked to this original one.
OK. Will try to give details. Since this thread I have no trouble staying connected as I ran a cable through the house and connected from the router to the puter via an ethernet cable. Lately my wife has said that she would prefer that she didn`t keep tripping over the cable so I am now connecting by wireless.
Most of the time it is working well and indicating a good connection. However, from ti,e to time it drops to a poor signal. Also sometimes it will not connect and says it requires a certificate.
I connect via WCZ and have done the usual, repair the connection and re boot both the machine and the router. Thanks again for reading.0 -
It may be interference from another WiFi network
http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider is an excellent free tool for checking the local WiFi situation.
The bit about certificates makes no sense to me at all - can you come up with more detail? screenshot?
An alternative to WiFi is to use HomePlugs but that does involve cash outlay.0 -

I do have a bit of spare cash and I heard about HomePlugs so that`s a good suggestion. Just going to have a go at the tool. Thanks.
This was the message kwikbreaks, it also has a remedy

That explains why I've never seen it then. Strange how it got turned on on-the-fly with yours which I assume it must have done.
For general browsing the 85Mbps ones are fine but if you expect to be into HD streaming sometime you may as well get 200Mbps ones. It's been a while sine I looked at them so I'm not sure of current pricings but 200s used to be quite expensive so I just bougth 85s. I'm gigabit ethernet only these days0 -
Well ran net stumbler and only one other person on my channel and my, oh my, it all seems to be running fine now.
I do like the idea of the HomePlugs. The guy who is in charge of refurbing our place has suggested running another telephone connection into my office.0
