We didn't have a gift list nor did we ask for money/vouchers we just wanted people to come and join us on our wedding day.
Some of our guests didn't give us anything, but most people gave us money or vouchers for John Lewis and we were overwhelmed by their generosity.
We did have some guests who bought us wedding gifts, we received a Le Creuset tea set, a Dyson Hand vac (!!!) a beautiful photo frame (not typical wedding frame) and a lovely piece of objet d'art.,___,

Big Momma you have summed up exactly what I was trying to say. We are leaning towards the idea of asking for money so we can have a honeymoon, not sure how it works with asking evening guests... I have no idea I thought one wouldn't but we got an evening invite with a poem about money for a gift included.Bump due 22nd September0

I saw something today actually which I'd love for us ~ those big round sphere things you get rolled down a hill in ~ how sad is that LOL!
Lydia, how lucky, I love Le Creuset stuff, I wouldn't mind receiving some of that!
We're not having a gift list and we're not going ask for anything in the invite (like those poem cash cards you can get).
If people don't want to buy a gift or give, that's fine, I just want to see them all there on our day, that would be enough for me!
Happy people = happy me!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Thanks everyone, I will probably try to find something special a but cheaper then, that way they can have majority money.:j

My Aunt's boyfriend was a wedding planner and he mentioned a gift that always goes down well (but some hotels throw in free so best to check) would be a cake knife engraved with the names of the bride and groom and the wedding date. I thought that was a brilliant idea and something nice to keep. Some jewellers sell cake knives.
Another friend offered to make us personally engraved champagne flutes with our initials and the dates - another nice thought?0 -
I think art is a great idea and am secretly crossing my fingers that someone gets us some - although you really have to know their tastes. I also love Le Crueset stuff and it's something you can't really justify buying yourself. But again, that's me. My sister and I were both given a large Le Crueset casserole dish for Christmas; I was over the moon and she looked at it like it had landed from Mars.
Remember, better to give money or vouchers than spend a fortune on something they'll only bring out of the loft when they know you're visiting!
Saying this, I got my best friend a tide clock and a crate of strongbow... She said the best thing they got was a painting of a local scene, and the worst was passport covers which said 'Mr and Mrs' which they donated to charity straightaway!0 -
well I would say the best present for us would be cash lol
we have lived together for a few years now so we have all the bits and bobs that we need, and we have nearly finished doing things to the house but want to tart up the drive a bit.....which we cant afford to do, so money towards that will be very very greatfully received
i think buying a present when someone has said they would like money towards something is a risky business...I would be worried that what I bought would end up going in a cupboard never used or given to charity, Id rather give money and let them have what they actually want / need
I think if you really want to get them a gift you should go down the mainly cash and token gift option
just make sure the gift makes sense for them as a coupleMarried on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0 -
i agree with most on this.....money is the ideal pressie as we have lived together for over 4 yrs and have moved house twice so have everything we need
money would help towards a honeymoon as just now every penny we have between now & july is being spent on the wedding, but just for people to turn up & enjoy & share our hapiness is the main thing0 -

I can justify it too! Had a ball in the Le Creuset shop at Cheshire Oaks before Christmas and spent a bit of cash there
I got some bits of it for my birthday too, just before Christmas also.
OH wants all the pans now, he can pay for them at those prices though!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0
